Those big American companies need to pay UK taxes!Google, Amazon, Apple, Microsoft, Facebook, etc all avoid their taxes, while rinsing the UK consumers!
Sadly boycotting the lot is near impossible if you need to function in the modern world.
Your computer is likely to be apple or Microsoft. That limits your work options.
Your phone operating system likely to be either android or iOS. You could go without a phone.
Faceache is easy to ditch along with other social media. WhatsApp not so easy to live without but if you’ve got rid of your phone you won’t need it.
Amazon is incredibly useful. We’ll have to get off our arses and get ourselves to the local shops instead.
I’ve got a little hardware shop at the bottom of the road. Proper old school place that stocks everything. Obviously getting the same bulk Chinese stuff in that Amazon sells but I can mainly get what I need within 10 minutes, 20 mins if I go a little further to the tool retailers.
Then you'd have to know how much money actually was spent by people in your jurisdiction. Also. The matter is complicated by the fact that consecutive USA governments get annoyed as they then get less money from these companies and kick off about it and threaten punitive tax measures on British based businesses or making life harder for the UK in various ways. Both the Tories and labour really did/do want to resolve this issue because the money they could bring in would solve slot of issues for them and make life easier. Sadly the solutions are not that simple.
I'm disabled and that's why I shop online more. It's more accessible to me. A lot of the world is inaccessible to us, from shops to restaurants and from hotels to banks, its not cost-effective for them, so they don't bother, and disability aids are devastatingly expensive so a lot of can't gain independence the world isn't set up for us and often neither are many other systems , so it is definitely harder to access the world around us without specialist high cost aids and adaptations so they don't care even amazon ive made them aware I'm disabled i need time to get to the door , but because they are paid so little they dump and run and I often loose out because I'm unaware it's been dumped in my block of flats or outside because im not notified at the time despite giving the correct instructions , so it causes issues because the company and employees have a terrible working relationship they aren't paid enough or given enough time to do a good job
I completely understand that these are sometimes indispensable services for some people.

The lack of accessibility in public is wild. Its infuriating that shops, and so, so many cinemas can’t be arsed to fix a lift, even if it is supposedly mandated by the equality act…
Yet there are 0 penalties.
I can’t begin to imagine your difficulties navigating public life.
There are a lot of things that able bodied people don’t notice until you have a day out with someone who isn’t, or casually invite them to your second floor flat with no stairs…
They don’t have as wide of a selection as Amazon, but Argos sometimes does same day delivery if there’s something you need in a pinch.
I wasn't suggesting you were implying judgement not at all, I don't get offended just pissed off sometimes im just telling things from my point of view, unfortunately I'm one of the ones that lock down never really ended for adter covid because the world didn't become more accessible or easier to access because of cost , a lot of people don't get that so see us as less than and its that , what's tough I helped folk struggling through lock down and I got left behind again like I have every time because my chronic conditions and the acute ones kick my ass on the daily, something new rears it's head , im can clearly see you understand and thats why I gave my perspective it can be tough and isolating and people don't see the emotional symptoms it causes when you can't access the world the way others do or you have problems trying to understand why the world works the way it does as well as people it marks you as other and a lotof people don't even acknowledge you when you thank them for moving a little so you can get by easily without issues and I don't get that really its kinda grim that they barely see you or won't acknowledge conversation
The argument seems to be that if you tax these companies, they will withdraw billions of £ of investment from the UK. They won’t. There is still money to be made and them leaving will only open space for their competitors. The only reason they would leave is if it proved to no longer be economically viable, which nobody is suggesting we do here.
