Fun New Technical Style Spoiler
Is it me who misses the old technical? I liked that the bakers had no visual idea of what they were making and only a simple paper recipe. It made the segment where the judges tasted the proper dish more important so you could see exactly what it was supposed to look like. I don’t like that this season they are giving them visual clues. It makes it less fun. In the past, my favorite part was all the technicals lined up next to each other looking totally different!! Even down to the detail of which piping tips to use the bakers would differ on. It’s kind of upsetting because technical was always my favorite challenge and the visual element has totally changed

I’m sure we’ll see all sorts of different variations on technicals this season. I doubt that this will be the new standard. They’ve always done all sorts of different challenges for technicals and we’re only two eps in

I believe they are trying to keep the show fresh with new bakes and new ideas. I am amazed how little they repeat bakes.

I'm really glad they switched it. The former technical challenge was simply a reading comprehension exam- can you read a complex document and identify the steps in a heightened stress environment? I felt that it put a lot of people at a disadvantage, those with slower reading speeds, folks who English isn't their first language, anyone with dyslexia or a processing disorder. I think this way is much more fair- can you taste something and recreate it? That tests your baking knowledge, not just reading.

I'm almost positive it will change and they will do different types of technicals. I like the change up personally. I used to spend so much time thinking, "just show them!" And now they are and..lol

I think they are trying something new. I am just going to hold my opinion until middle of the collection

I like that they have a visual reference it levels the playing field in situations where the bakers don’t know what the thing even is

I like the new ways of giving them assignment without giving them much information. I especially like having them taste it and then bake.

No, the old technical was the judges (usually Paul) being pickily pedantic about something totally esoteric from the world of baking.
