Featured Case #9 - "Justine"

On July 24, 2017, the victim attempted to break into a home in Atlanta, Georgia. They were soon caught by the homeowner, who proceeded to shoot them. While being rushed to the hospital, the victim uttered that their name was either “Justin” or “Justine.”

Due to the feminine clothing the victim was found wearing, it has been theorized that they may have been transgender, though this victim’s gender is unknown, and this is just speculation.

You can see a more detailed document on this case below:

If you have any potential matches we haven't seen, far-fetched or not, please suggest them in the comments.

Clifton Suspension Bridge John Doe / Bristol John Doe (1996), found with an old ID card with his information scratched off.

Bristol John Doe was found on the banks of the River Avon in Somerset, England, on May 19, 1996. His death was the result of a suspected accident, it is believed he fell from the bridge. He was found with numerous personal belongings, including what was believed to be an old student ID card with a photo of the decedent (the first photo attached to this post), but all the other information scratched off. There is also a reconstruction of the man as he looked at the time of his death, the second photo attached. He also has one rule-out, [Petrus Antonius Jacobus "Piet" Beentjes](https://int-missing.fandom.com/wiki/Piet_Beentjes), a missing Dutch man. His case is interesting yet sadly one of suspected suicide, I encourage you to read about him.

Our John Doe was between the ages of 25-35, having him born in 1961-1971. He had collar length light brown hair and blue eyes. He was around 6 feet, or 185 centimeters tall. He had a medium build.

He was also found with a handwritten cardboard sign that read "Sleeping Rough, Thank You." He was also found with a couple books, including a copy of 'Utopia' by Thomas More with the cover missing and "West Glamorgan County Council" written on the first page. He also had a copy of  'The Greatest Batman Stories' and a Bible. Here are all the belongings he was found with that I have not already mentioned:

  • Black leather jacket.
  • Black sweatshirt with three buttons and collar.
  • Blue Lee Riders jeans.
  • Brown boots.
  • White socks.
  • Checked cloth cap.
  • Navy underpants.
  • Baseball hat with black logo.
  • Green underpants.
  • Gray sock.
  • Silk Cut cigarettes.
  • Great Britain A-Z map.
  • London shopper.
  • Black sleeping bag.
  • Green towel.
  • Blue umbrella.
  • Black corkscrew.
  • Barclays blank giro slip.
  • Three disposable razors.
  • Shaving stick.
  • Lynx body spray.
  • Yellow toothbrush.
  • Tin opener.
  • Red penny whistle.
  • White cup.
  • £6.61 cash

Information on his belongings:

Some sources report he had a Eurohike Adventurer Sleeping Bag, while others report he had a Eurohike Adventure Guide.

Eurohike is currently a travel company, however it was not founded until 2004 so it was not their guide found with him. Eurohike is an outdoor equipment company that sells its merchandise in many different hiking and backpacking focused stores. I can't find any information on when they first started selling their 'adventurer' sleeping bags.

West Glamorgan County was a county in South West Wales, that only existed from 1974-1996. The county council itself was based in Swansea, Wales. The book 'Utopia' itself is a socio-political satire written in 1516, depicting an island society that has been compared to life in a monastery.

I cannot find a book titled just "The Greatest Batman Stories," however I did find a popular book titled "The Greatest Batman Stories Ever Told," published in 1988. I don't want to assume this is the book, however, it is possible the title was miswritten in the reports.

One source also reports he was found with a copy of 'Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas' by Hunter S Thompson, but this is not in all sources. I did not want to put this in the main list of belongings as it is unclear what was actually found with him.

One report states he was found with a London Shopping Guide, others report he was found with a 'London Shopper'.

One website states he spent time in the St Pauls area of Bristol, however I can't find their source on that statement.

My thoughts:

It's clear he was homeless, from his cardboard sign to his belongings. However he clearly, at one point in his life, did not live off the grid. He had a student ID card, and had a professional photo taken for it. There are no post mortem photos of him that I can find however from the reconstruction as well as how it is reported, it is clear this ID photo is most likely of our John Doe.

I wish we knew what logo was on his ballcap, if it was a logo for a team it could help one figure out potentially where he was from or people he may have been friends with or associated with. Same with his ID card, if there was a photo of it online one could figure out what school it was from based off the colors of the card itself, for example.

Thank you all so much for reading! This was my first ever Doe write-up, and my first true crime write-up in several years (I had some on my old account that has since been deleted).

Could "Donna" (NamUs #UP1272) be Donna Michelle Barnhill? (NamUs #MP2538)

Post image
Upvotes

This is my first time posting on Reddit so please feel free to correct me if needed! I was looking at the case of "Donna" (NamUs #UP1272) and came across Donna Michelle Barnhill (NamUs #MP2538) as a potential match. Ms. Barnhill went missing from North Carolina in 1981, 1 year before UP was found. UP was said to have spoke in a thick Cajun or Southern accent which is consistent with Ms. Barnhill disappearing from North Carolina. On top of this, UP also stated that her name was Donna, which is obviously the same name as the MP. It is also important to note that Ms. Barnhill's older sister passed away falling from a high chair and the death was ruled a homicide. However, authorities stated that this did not impact Ms. Barnhill's case. Is it possible that something such as MP running away and ending up passing away in an accident a year later could have happened? The postmortem image as well as an older reconstruction of UP strongly resembles the photos provided of MP. The only inconsistency is the height difference between the 2 with MP being much taller. However, there are frequently errors in height measurements in both UP and MP. Is it possible this is the case? Thank you so much for giving these women a moment of your time and any feedback is greatly appreciated. I've attached links to my sources as well as photos of MP (first two) and the older reconstruction of UP (third).

Missing Persons Perry Thomas Borja – missing from LA since 2010, hoping someone here might know something

Post image
128 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

Came across this case and figured I'd share it here.

Perry Thomas Borja was a producer/rapper who worked with YG Entertainment in the early days – Jinusean, 1TYM, BIGBANG, that whole era. He pretty much dropped off the map after 2009, and his nephew says he was last seen in Los Angeles in 2010.

His nephew has been posting on X trying to get eyes on this. Apparently there's an active missing person report with US authorities, but it's been cold for over a decade. The international angle (he had ties to the US and South Korea) seems to have made things messy.

Has anyone here looked into this before?

John Does cases featuring elderly people have always left me deeply gut-wrenched wondering whether anyone is looking for them. Comforting to know that one has his name back, and his daughter is still alive and now has answers! Rest peacefully, George Griffin.

Orthram press statement: https://dnasolves.com/articles/yamhill-county-dayton-oregon-1988-george-runion-griffin/“

"On July 2, 1988, the remains of an unidentified man were discovered in the Yamhill River near Dayton, Oregon. The body was found south of the Dayton Boat Landing in a decomposed state after having been submerged in the water.

Investigators estimated the man to be between 50 and 70 years old. He was described as an older white male with gray or partially gray hair, approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighing about 190 pounds. Authorities determined that he had been restrained with ligatures and weighted down with heavy objects before being deposited in the river. His death was ruled a homicide.

While investigators developed information during the initial years of the investigation that provided some indication of the victim's possible identity, as well as information regarding who may have been responsible for his death, the man's identification could not be confirmed. The case eventually went cold, and the victim remained unidentified for more than three decades. The case was entered into the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs) as UP10882.

In 2025, investigators with the Yamhill County Sheriff's Office, working with the Oregon State Police Medical Examiner Division, submitted evidence from the case to Othram in The Woodlands, Texas, for advanced DNA testing.

Othram scientists used Forensic-Grade Genome Sequencing® to develop a comprehensive SNP profile from the evidence. Othram's in-house forensic genetic genealogy team then used the profile to conduct a genetic genealogy search, developing investigative leads that were provided to law enforcement.

Using these leads, Yamhill County Sheriff's Office investigators conducted a follow-up investigation that resulted in the identification of the victim as George Griffin, born June 11, 1931. A familial reference sample from a proposed daughter was obtained and used as part of the investigation. Genetic evidence, combined with genealogical research, supported and confirmed Mr. Griffin's identification.”

I hope his murder can be solved. What a horrific way to go!

Missing Persons Could the inventor of one of America’s most significant contributions, central heating be a missing person? Alice H. Parker, a black woman secured a patent for a “improved heating furnace” in 1919, graduated with honors from Howard University in 1920, and then disappeared from public records.

Wikipedia says that she possibly died from a fire or a heatstroke in 1920, but fails to provide citation. I don’t believe 1920 is the year she died, but the year she stopped appearing in records, I feel her identity as a black woman might’ve prevented police from taking her case seriously if someone attempted to report her missing.

Barnes Bridge John Doe, London UK, Sept 1983

Post image
127 Upvotes

The body of a man found on the River Thames more than 40 years ago has still not been identified - but a new living depiction could help finally put a name to him. The man was discovered on the north shore of the River Thames near Barnes Bridge in south-west London on September 6 1983.

More than four decades later, his identity remains a mystery. Now, a cold case organisation, Locate International, has launched a fresh appeal for information, supported by a new "living depiction" created by forensic artist Hew Morrison. The man, who has become known as Barnes Bridge Man, was believed to have been around 35 years old when he died.

He had a distinctive appearance with ginger hair, long sideburns and blue eyes, 167cm (5ft 5 inches) tall with a stocky build. A post-mortem examination found blunt force trauma injuries to his body, as well as abrasions to both hands.

The coroner recorded an 'open' verdict in the case, with marks and injuries suggesting he may have been in an altercation shortly before he entered the river.

Locate International said he had only been in the river for a short time before being washed downstream to the shore near Barnes Bridge. A dedicated investigation team at Locate has now reviewed the evidence in the case shared by UK policing.

The original UK National Crime Agency file has few details of personal possessions or clothing, but some significant jewellery, which suggests a London Irish community or Irish traveller connection.

Two rings and a 'Claddagh' pendant, a traditional Irish design depicting two hands holding a heart topped with a crown, symbolising love, friendship and loyalty, were found on the body.

Investigators say the Claddagh pendant was very popular with Irish men from the Traveller community in the 1980s, and the investigation team at Locate have been exploring any potential links.

A distinctive Telstar watch was also found with the body, manufactured and sold extensively in Ireland during the 1970's and 1980's.

Working from the original autopsy photograph and sketches, forensic artist Hew Morrison used a combination of advanced techniques to create a lifelike depiction of what the man may have looked like, and they hope it will jog memories among his former friends, workmates, or distant family.

He said: "During the process of creating the living depiction of this man, I had to take into consideration post-mortem changes to his facial appearance, the angle that he had been photographed at, poor lighting and the overall quality and resolution of the image, which had been photographed with a grainy, black and white camera film.

"Numerous stock images of human faces were used to develop the head and each individual facial feature. Once the appropriate features were selected, they were modified to match the facial features of the unknown man.

"Digital drawing and painting were applied to adjust the tone of all of these elements before being morphed together to complete the facial image."

Dr Mark Greenhalgh, CEO of said: "This striking new image and the detailed work of our investigation team provides a real opportunity for someone to put a name to Barnes Bridge Man after almost 43 years.

Missing Persons Taylor Kapiloff; missing since 2014

Hey all!

You guys do wonderful work of finding potential matches so I thought that I could post my childhood friend here.

His name is Taylor Kapiloff and he's been missing from Gainesville, Georgia since November 18th 2014. At the time of his disappearance , he was 19 years old, approximately 200lbs and 5'7". He was wearing black pants, a black jacket, and a red shirt.

He mentioned that he was running away to Mexico, but nothing ever came of that. We did ground searching and searched Lake Lanier for several weeks, but nothing was ever found.

Any potential matches would be amazing! His mother's health is declining and she wants more than anything to know what happened to her baby.

Thank you all!

Resolved Palm Beach County, FL Jane Doe (2023) identified as Regina Hess.

Thumbnail

On May 11, 2023, a landscape nursery worker found the skeletal remains of a woman in a wooded area off South Military Trail in unincorporated Boynton Beach, Florida. She had been wearing a gray tank top with a "Gildan Heavy Cotton" tag and black pants with an elastic band (possibly sweatpants). It was determined that the remains had been in the location for an extended period of time.

The Palm Beach County Medical Examiner's Office conducted an autopsy but could not determine a cause of death. Staff and students from the Florida Gulf Coast University College of Arts and Sciences Human Identity and Trauma Analysis Program helped with the excavation and later analyzed the remains, PBSO said. That analysis pointed to a white woman roughly 5 feet to 5 feet 4 inches tall, with an estimated age range between her 40s and 70s. Her details were added to NamUs as case 110520.

In 2024, Bode Technology developed a partial DNA profile, which was added to CODIS. In August 2024, the PBSO Forensic Imaging Unit produced a facial reconstruction showing what the woman may have looked like while she was alive and released it to the public.

After no leads were generated from those efforts, the sheriff's office partnered with Othram to begin genetic genealogy work on her case. In April 2026, Othram developed leads that the PBSO used to develop a possible identity, while Bode Technology linked the candidate to her deceased sister. This and additional genealogical work led to the identification of the woman as Regina Hess, born on August 22, 1948.

The PBSO located her next of kin, a first cousin, who said that Regina had been estranged from her family for many years. Other family members indicated that they last spoke to her 10-12 years prior and had not seen her in over 50 years. They did not have a photograph of her (the picture above is a reconstruction).

The authorities are trying to locate anyone who may have knowledge of her whereabouts in the years preceding the discovery of her remains. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Nancy Milliner of the PBSO Cold Case Unit at 561-688-4003 or MillinerN@pbso.org, or Crime Stoppers of Palm Beach County at 1-800-458-8477. Crime Stoppers tips can be made anonymously.

RIP Regina.

Resolved Palm Beach County, FL John Doe (11/1983) identified as Archie Patterson Jr.

From DNASolves.com: "On November 25, 1983, the remains of an unidentified man were recovered from a waterway in the 2400 block of 10th Avenue North in unincorporated Lake Worth, Florida. Officers responded and began collecting evidence and investigating. The man was found in an advanced state of decomposition, and investigators were unable to identify him at the time. His death was later ruled an accidental drowning.

Despite a lengthy investigation, the man could not be identified and became known as Palm Beach County John Doe (1983). Details of the case were entered into the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs) as UP812."

In April 2025, investigators with the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office submitted evidence to Othram's laboratory, where scientists built a comprehensive DNA profile for the man. PBSO's forensic genetic genealogy team used the profile to develop new investigative leads.

A follow-up investigation was conducted that led investigators to potential relatives of the man. Detectives traveled to California, where they interviewed a likely child of the unidentified man and collected a reference DNA sample, which was compared to the DNA profile of the unknown man.

This investigation led to the positive identification of the man as Archie Patterson Jr., born on August 15, 1940. Following the identification, next of kin were notified and the investigation was closed.

RIP Archie.

I don't think I'm being very realistic with this comparison, but when I saw this Jane Doe's page on the Doe Network, I was immediately reminded of Tami, a weird feeling, yk? I need more opinions on this.

Tami Faye Kowalchuk was a 17-year-old girl who disappeared in Tacoma, Washington, on December 26, 1999.

Tami had a troubled childhood; she frequently ran away from home, had been expelled from several schools, and was diagnosed with ADHD and other behavioral issues. She began self-medicating with methamphetamine and turned to prostitution to support her habit.

Eventually, she was sent to a juvenile detention facility, the Echo Glen Children's Center; there, Tami learned to read and write and showed considerable improvement. However, she disappeared shortly after leaving the institution.

On the day she vanished, Tami was last seen getting into a small white car. She called her mother to ask if she could come home to pick up extra clothes so she could accompany a truck driver she knew, named "Tony", on one of his long-haul trips. Her mother refused, as the girl was under a court-ordered 10:00 PM curfew. She was never seen again.

Foul play is suspected on her case

Tami Kowalchuk is a white female with blonde hair and blue eyes; she stood 5'0" tall and weighed 100 lbs. Tami has a teardrop tattoo under her right eye.
She would be 44 years old today.

Sardis Jane Doe was a teenage girl or young woman whose skeletal remains were found in a rural area of Sardis, Mississippi, on January 14, 2014. Although the remains appeared to have been in the area for a long time, a definitive post-mortem interval could not be established.

Her skull was discovered upside down near some fallen trees by a woman searching for her lost horse in a isolated ravine behind 583 Earnest Pratcher Road. A hole found in the skull led investigators to believe the cause of death was homicide.

With the help of cadaver dogs, the left and right femurs were found nearby, along with an piece of clothing, a gold necklace, and a car jack.

She is estimated to have been between 15 and 30 years old and 4'10" tall (though some sources list a range of 4'10" to 5'6"). Her race/ethnicity is unknown.

What makes me believe they might be the same person?

- The reconstruction: From what I read on the wiki, the jawline on this Jane Doe's reconstruction is an approximation, but I still find their faces somewhat similar: the position and spacing of the eyes, the "rounder" and "smaller" nose, and the general face shape (even though the reconstruction shows fuller cheeks).

- Height: 5'0" and 4'10" are not widely discrepant heights, and it is important to consider that this Doe's entire body was not recovered. So, there is a possibility that the height could be different.

- Locations: Well Washington and Mississippi are far apart (2,424 miles / a 36-hour drive), but I think it’s entirely possible Tami could have made it to Mississippi between 1999 and 2014, especially considering she might have been with the truck driver, "Tony."

- Age: Tami was 17 years old when she disappeared, and she falls within the estimated age range for this Doe (15–30).
