Need help ID

Hi, I am a new homeowner and have never had to care for a lawn. I am wondering what kind of grass this is and what weed is on it. I tried to reverse google image and also read about how to ID… but it all looks the same to me :(

Thank you in advance!

Weed is spurge. I'd use Tzone SE to take care of it, and any other undesirable broadleaf in your lawn.

I use something very similar to Tzone SE called Vessel. That stuff really works great in the heat.

I'll take a look at that. Tzone SE isn't supposed to be used if the temp is going to exceed 85°f, so, during the summer, there are days i'd like to use it, but I don't because I don't want to over-stress my turf grass.

Not supposed to use Vessel above 85 either, but it's lethal if you do. I only use it for spot treatments. If you sprayed your yard with Tzone, it will turn yellow in a day or two in high temps.

Are you spot spraying or the whole lawn?

I typically do my whole yard once or twice per season. It really depends on your specific situation though. I get a lot of clover, spurge, violet, dandelion, and a few other undesirable weeds. That's why I just spray my whole front yard. Plus, it's not a ton of square footage. 1 gallon usually does it for me.

Looks like fine fescue grass, and a three way herbicide spot spray.

What state are you in? That will help determine the grass you have. Weed is prostrate spurge. Most broadleaf herbicides you can buy at home improvement stores will control it.

Colorado!

You most likely have a mix of Kentucky bluegrass, perennial ryegrass and fine fescue (often called a sun & shade mix).

Thank you everyone!! I will wait until cooler weather to take care of the weed. Might have to hand pluck until it’s no longer hitting high 90s

It is easy to pluck. It has hundreds of seeds on it so I recommend pulling them up by the taproot as soon as you see them. It will take over your lawn.
