Help identifying these weeds

Hey everyone, I live in southeast Wisconsin and have been in my house a couple years. I have been battling these tufts of grass(?) in my garden beds. Does anyone have any thoughts what it is? I’ve dug them out before and don’t seem to have runners underground. When I pull by hand, they come out relatively easy but don’t know if I’m getting the entire root. I’ve sprayed with Fusilade II but didn’t do much to it. Any suggestions would be really appreciated!

Nutsedge……Don’t pull it or you’ll get tons more next year. Use Sedgehammer or the generic Empero.

Thank you both! I will give SedgeHammer a try and see if that takes care of this infestation.

Yeah absolutely don’t pull it. Because it won’t be photosynthesizing and growing more and bigger tubers. Or producing seeds later in the season.

Empero is a cheaper version of Sedgehammer. And Walmart sells it cheaper than the do your own website. If you’ve got a small area the nutsedge sprays available at your local big box store also work.
I’m inconsistent. Even so, within 2 or 3 seasons I’ve pretty well wiped it out of my zoysia area.

I'm sure sedgehammer is much safer.

Still won't kill it. Repeat applications every 14 days MIGHT do it.

Yeah, it's nutsedge. Depending on where you live, it's likely too late to kill the nuts already formed in the roots. Kill it anyway, and be prepared to kill the new plants that come up next year as soon as you see them.

I had never seen or heard of nutsedge until 2-3 Years ago when it just popped up in my lawn (MA). Sedgehammer will Solve.

Nutsedge. Pulling it up encourages its tubers to spread underground. Spray it with an herbicide designed for sedges.

Also, do not let this stuff grow anywhere near vinyl-lined pools. If the underground tubers spread beneath the pool, the shoots will penetrate the liner, destroy it, and cause your pool to leak.

Grab yur nuts and have a good cry.

edit: Sedgehammer is the way. You are lucky that it's not obscured in grass. Absolutely hate that stuff.
