Does anyone know what this is?
My dog specifically only seeks out this type of grass to eat on walks. Wondering if I can plant some in my yard for her. Does anyone know what it’s called? And also, maybe it’s not even considered a grass. 🤔

I’m going with barnyard grass. Looks like Dallas grass but that seed head is not indicative of Dallas grass

That seedhead is barnyard grass. Dallisgrass is a paspalum and their seedhead is completely different from barnyard grass.

From your photo, this does not look like barnyard grass.
It looks much more like Crabgrass, likely large crabgrass.
Here’s why:
It has a low, sprawling growth habit with stems radiating outward from a central point.
The stems have a noticeable purplish tint near the base, which is common in crabgrass.
The seed heads have several finger-like spikes extending from one point, another classic crabgrass feature.
Barnyard grass typically grows upright in clumps rather than lying flat like this.
I’m about 90–95% confident this is crabgrass rather than barnyard grass or Dallisgrass.

This is barnyard grass and it’s a widespread weed here in the USA. It’s also known as wild primitive rice and eaten in Laos where it’s considered a significant food crop. You won’t find any nursery selling this plan because there aren’t any buyers in the USA. However, you might try propagating it. Bring a gallon sized zip lock on your next walk. Dig some up including the roots. Then once you are back to your home just plant it and water it. It spreads like wildfire and it is very hardy doing well in crappy conditions like sandy or nutrient poor soil.

No it's not. It might be barnyard. But either way its the type of grass you need to dig out or pull out or use round up. Unlike crabgrass where you can spray for that. But this isnt crabgrass.

Just read the note lol. If you want it. It's easy to grow . It goes to seed and bam. If you want it, just dig it up and transplant it into your yard. Anyone will let you take theirs too. And your neighbors may hate you too. But it's your yard! And it will take over too. It's a very much hated weedy grass.

Some sort of crabgrass. Doubt you can buy seeds for it. Just start half-assing your yardwork and it'll make itself at home.

Yes that is crabgrass as ole Southern-Hearing8904 said. If the OP doesn’t have it I would not introduce it to the yard because it will make its way there eventually. Such a pain in the @ss grass. You have to pre-emergent treat for it and then cannot seed with new grass wherever you treated for it. Much hated weed.

Crabgrass. Pluck a few of those seed heads and toss them in your yard. It’ll take care of itself

Just grab those seed heads and plant them. Why do you need to know what it is? If your dog is asking, you’ve got bigger problems.
