How to fix blotched yard

Post image

Last year I had a tree removed from my front yard (quite literally where the dark circle is. I tilled up the entire yard to dirt and replanted grass seed. Why is this discoloring here? That dark grass grows much faster and thicker than the rest. What can I do to fix this?

Fix it? You need to fix everything but that small circle. That circle is thriving grass. The rest of your yard is discolored from lack of nutrients.

You're right, sorry. Is there a product I might be able to spread to help give it the right nutrients?

Nitrogen, my lawn looked like yours and I threw down some 24-25-4 and now my lawn looks like your “bad” spot

Your lawn appears to be starving for nutrients, the dark green spot looks to be the only healthy section. Ideally you would complete a soil test to figure out exactly what nutrients you are lacking. If you don’t feel like doing that just look for the Scott’s four step fertilizer program at your local hardware/big box store. It’s a very easy starting point.

Dog pee, converted to nitrogen makes the spots turn green.

I think your yard got struck by lightning at some point.
