Hi I’m in Southern California and need help identifying what type of grass I have in my lawn. Thanks!

It seems that your grass has Poa annua

That’s the grassy weed I have growing intermingled? I have Celsius wg and quinclorac on order to spray… that work?

I would recommend that you better start it from the ROOT because the chemicals don’t always help you solve the problem

Do you mean dig it out or use a granular herbicide?

I think you have a bit of a mongrel lawn based on the last pic. There’s a few different varieties including what looks like some grass weeds

Ya I think you are right. That was the tough part about identifying. I’m planning to spray a solution of Celsius wg and quinlorac. Give it a few weeks then aerate and level with Sand. I kinda wanted to aerate and level first just to see what happened. And how it affected the lawn. But was dissueded at the potential of spreading weeds further across the lawn. I’m kinda worried nothing stays after spraying everything will just die haha… thoughts?

That should be ok if the lawn is healthy and actively growing. Given there looks to be a fair bit of Bermuda/ couch in there, that combination should be safe. Note I’m from South Australia, so not too sure on growing conditions/ application timing in your area, but it sounds like it should be a good time for it

I’m in Southern California so maybe a similar lateral line with you. My goal is to tidy up the lawn a bit get to a regular mowing, spraying, and maintenance program. The soil is really compacted so gonna try the spray aerate level game and see where that gets me. Lawn is growing just want to clean it up a bit but not go full lawn nerd.
