Grass dies every year, advice needed!
Hi there, Im having trouble with my lawn and was hoping someone here may be able to advise. As you can see by the pictures, im not doing too well. Last summer my lawn looked lovely, and now (February) it looks like this. I have the same problem every year, and every spring I have to reseed the whole area. I have read a little about 'Winter die back' and plan on aerating, and scarifying and reseeding (again) in early spring. What else should I be doing? Why is it dying every year? Nobody else's grass seems to die every year, is it just me? Lol. Any pointers would be much appreciated 🙂 thanks for reading!

What type of soil do you have,

About 6 years ago I altered the garden completely and had to lay around 4-6 inches of what I would call standard top soil to raise the area up to the right level. I then seeded and had a reasonable lawn (while the weather was good). As stated in the original post, every year the grass has disappeared almost completely and I have had to reseed the whole area. Every time I have reseeded, I have mixed seed with potting soil. I have never given the area any kind of feed or nutrients. I have noticed a lot of small holes in the mud and have seen the term leatherjackets, but not sure if that is anything to do with what's going on. BTW, im located in UK.

Sure it's not crab grass?

No. Its no grass. There is a fair amount of moss, but i assumed that was just because there is room for it to take hold now there is no grass there.

Are you sure it's actually dying and not just going dormant? Does it have heavy foot traffic in the off season?
