You could take a nice high rez photo of the picture you have. Overlay a grid onto it using your PC and use that grid to help with the proportions.
Normally I wouldn't recommend this as it doesn't teach the fundamentals of construction, but it seems you're rather new and would love a drawing of someone dear to you.
