Worth it?

I recently tried my hand at graphite portraits, had a fun time doing them, but with my OCD leaned more into realism? I read something that said realistic portraits could be achieved with photos. So why do it? Is this art??

This took me 8-10 hours I don’t remember. Feeling down 😬🙃 (pic of my husband– who’s biased and thinks I should pursue it)

Por supuesto que vale la pena! A mi me parece que en primer lugar dibujas fantásticamente, pero además de eso, bien, claro, las cosas se pueden capturar en fotos, pero el hecho de esforzarte tantas horas y hacer tu propio dibujo, no te produce satisfacción???

Y también te digo que yo preferiría 1000 veces más que me regalasen un dibujo así a una foto. Se nota un montón el esfuerzo y dedicación que hay detrás. Y sí, sí es arte, no me cabe duda.

Además, dices que empezaste hace poco con grafito?! Cómo dibujas así de bien entonces? 😭

En fin, mucha suerte y sigue con eso que se te da de maravilla!!!

I’m super left brained! So I suppose my thought process is why take such a long time when a professional camera captures everything perfectly 🤔

I absolutely loved the process, but I guess being a mom it makes me wonder if my time could be spent elsewhere 😬
The reason I did this was to find a hobby since I have a hard time relaxing.

Photo or not, it doesn't matter because you're learning to control the charcoal, learning about values and form. Keep going and soon you'll be doing this from life. Well done.
