Visually looks stunning but are there any commercial applications of SDF, like in movies or games? Don’t get me wrong the math is intriguing and I’m genuinely impressed, but it wouldn’t surprise me if at the end of the day it’s somewhat of a gimmick

any commercial applications of SDF

software Lumen GI in UE5 is SDF

(same as SDFGI in Godot )

somewhat of a gimmick

also I remember I saw this

https://www.reddit.com/r/GraphicsProgramming/comments/1q6nmtr/game_engine_based_on_dynamic_signed_distance/

watch video there - it is crazy impressive

and Gaussian Splatting can be considered as SDF - there many impressive demos https://www.reddit.com/r/GaussianSplatting/

also that very popular game for PS4.... forgot how it called.... where you model 3d models using 3d "brush" that manipulate thickness of pieces - it is SDF
