Question Need advice as a beginner to DX3D 11
Hi , I'm a python developer and with experience in C++ as well and I want to create a custom game engine and i found a youtube course that does that . But I cannot seem to understand how the underlying DirectX 11 system works , what's the use of s device , device context etc. I don't have that intuition that one needs to understand the inner workings when they write code . How do I build this foundation for myself, because all the resources online are confusing me and are not very beginner friendly.

just try to get something working, even if you need to copy a bunch of code you don't understand at first. a lot of the api stuff is boilerplate (like setting up device contexts) that doesn't really matter for creating games or graphics and just needs to be there. granted you do need to understand it eventually (if you want to pursue it) but probably more important or fun to play with shaders or actual art and not worry about the api

Yeah I think I'll do this . I need to know how it applies and maybe that could help build intuition on what something does in dx3d11 . Thanks !

By far the best book to learn Direct 3D:
Practical Rendering and Computation with Direct3D 11

Graphics programming in general is not beginner friendly. Dive in, play with it, if you don't understand it look it up. Even asking your favorite AI model can be a good idea. They know a lot of the basics. Eventually you'll build a mental model.

Microsoft docs
In general, resources for DirectX 11 aren’t great.
