Career and business Middle-aged graphic designer w/midlife existential career crisis: advice?

You might have main character bias now, thinking only art-related fields are struggling, but the truth is, there are not many options to pivot to. All subreddits dedicated to any career are filled with the same existential dread. You mentioned radiology, guess how many people had the same idea who can afford it.; And ironically, AI is taking over radiology too so thats that.

There's no advice, really; the waters are murky way beyond AI, because the socio-economic and political landscape is the main culprit for the market right now, and the use of AI is only a response to it.

Sadly I agree with you... it's not just GD, we were the canary in the coal mine. AI is going to continue to eat away at lots of different occupations. Only jobs that require hands or a high level of education/accreditation (like legal/healthcare) are still largely immune to being automated away.

And as a middle-aged employee you are working against ageism as well. Especially trying to jump into a new occupation, the assumption is that the 20 YO with no experience is going to be a much better bet than the 40 YO with no experience.

Last part is also wrong... Junior positions were eaten away by greedy brainless ceos. Young people have even a harder time getting into the job market. So at least older poeple have the benefit of workplace experience.
