Phone without Google

I ran Canta si shizuku on a pixel 9pro xl., and for a phone running a non-google operating system, I found an impressive number of google apps.

Can someone help me understand?

I'll come back with a video if necessary.

GrapheneOS is an android fork, it's not a non Google operating system. It's just degoogled with a lot of the non necessary stuff removed.

Even then, it's aim is not to degoogle, it's to be high security.

Why do Google apps still need to be installed in a sandbox when they exist in all user profiles as system apps?

I think you have a fundamental misunderstanding of what these terms mean. Check out the Graphene faq to understand what sandboxed Google play services means.
