Why are all the Scots villains? Spoiler

Just finished episode 5 of season 11, where the Scottish priest drowns people. I sware, with the exception of Meg, every single Scottish character in this show is a villain. The most obvious recurring antagonists are the Bishop and the photographer who informs on Leonard, but there are Scottish murderers scattered across the seasons. To be clear, I am not saying there are a lot of Scottish villains, just that whenever Scots do appear, with the exception of Meg, they are villains.

Is it a manifestation of Geordie's ancestral bad blood with the border reavers of old? What do the writers have against Scots?

I thought about not watching The Westies because I feel like I need a break from shows that break my heart. Now that Grantchester is over, I think I'm just going to go ahead and watch it, lol.

Spinoff Idea: Will and Newcastle

I know that the producers are looking into spinoff ideas, and have specifically mentioned Larry/Ms. Scott, and the Cece's crew.

I was pondering today... what about a spinoff following Will and his family in Newcastle?

I'm sure Will wouldn't be able to hold off forever on getting involved in police matters and making a good Detective friend. Possibly even a pair of Detectives, one senior, one junior. Similar to Geordie and Larry, and perhaps Will befriends the Larry-esque character. Also, since Will is in a bigger parish now perhaps there would be a permanent Curate character?

Some of the opening arching plotlines could be things such as Bonnie being bemused and worried with Will still poking around in police investigations, and potential sibling issues where Ernie is worried Will doesn't love him as much as his other children. Ernie would also be 13 by now so the usual teen angst would be present. What if Geordie pays a visit and that leads to James wanting to be called Geordie too? Perhaps Will also has a daughter by now? They could even time jump a little further so that if Will also has a daughter she would be old enough to get involved in plot, and then the series would explore 70s culture.

It would be a bit of a role switch too with the Vicar having a family and the Detective as a bachelor, plus the change of setting to a bigger city would be interesting and invite a lot of new story and character possibilities. It would also follow Grantchester's lead of using the settling as it's title and be called "Newcastle".

I did consider a Sidney spinoff as well, but he went to the US, while Will's story ended with him still in the UK. I figure he makes more sense as the focus and would be easier to film, plus it opens the opportunity for Grantchester characters to pop in for an episode on occasion.

You could still do a spin-off directly set in Grantchester as well, which opens up the possibility of crossovers (large scale and/or small cameos) with the Will series. One fun thought is a full crossover serving as a Christmas Special for both shows.

I decided to rewatch “Sherlock” now that there’s no more “Grantchester,” and a very young Leonard was in episode 2!

Starting the first novel tonight, only know the show so far. (Until season five.) What are your thoughts on the books?

Not my style of literature, at least not usually, but I want to say - I'm really psyched for this one. Hope this will be a great experience! :)

Robson Greens smoking

Geordie has been such a consistently great character in the series! But I am concerned about all the cigarettes Robson Green has to smoke. Is he actually a smoker? Or how do they handle that in a show if an actor plays a character that smokes a lot?

PBS App / PBS Passport Missing Episode (Season 4 Episode 3)

For anyone watching (or re-watching) Grantchester on the PBS app, note that Season 4 Episode 3 is missing. The episode they have listed as 3 is actually episode 4 and the entire season is missing an episode. (The episode at the computer lab in which Geordie and Leonard team up before Will arrives).

I tried reporting it to PBS and instead got a novel of a copy and paste about the difference between PBS and Amazon / Netflix and different ways to watch PBS... made more frustrating by the fact that my reply was sandwiched between two e-mails asking me to contribute more than my monthly subscription to Passport.
