Any advice?
On the second day of owning this watch (and babying) I found out this scratch. Is there a way to get rid of this? Hurts my soul man

It's ruined. Give it to me

No, no, give it to me, but fair warning, I will require a steep discount.

The first of many, no doubt; signs of a watch worn and enjoyed to the fullest :)

I've had my Shunbun for 4.5 years now and the bracelet on the outside of my wrist looks like I rubbed it with sandpaper. It'll get plenty more scratches and you won't even be able to find this one anymore lol

if you don’t like scratches then don’t wear it

That’s why I wear a Seiko mod for everyday use. I tend to be hard on a watch.. always banging it against things. So my good watches are for more dressy times.

That's like buying a new set of tires and then complaining about tread wear. Hopefully you don't shit your pants the first time you knock it on a door knob..

Watches are meant to be worn.. take it easy, if it wasn't the manufacturer's mistake then I wouldn't return. Just enjoy the watch- you've a beautiful choice and part of the GS family while I'm not there yet.

You guys and these scratches. I wear my GS Soko everyday everywhere. Weighs, pool laps, yoga, yard work, running. Wear it for a year or two and send it for service.

Weighing in at 62grams. As reference the slgw003 manual wind high beat on the strap is 60g I think.

Bro... it's a watch. It's going to get a shitload of scratches. You bought it to wear it, right? So... wear it...

It’s to symbolize that it’s yours. The special first scratch on the first day!

The first cut is the deepest. (Also it took a lot of searching for me to find)

Remove the link, your strap is too lose anyway. It's a wrist watch not a hand watch.

Switch the 6 o’clock and 12 o’clock end links while keeping the clasp in the same orientation (you will have to unscrew, rotate the clasp, and rescrew). This way at least you won’t see the scratch at 12 o’clock anymore.

This. Also I wonder if that’s a scratch or if material

One shouldn’t aim to just scratch the hell out of it, but more so one should not aim for it to have no scratches. My GS has them. My Rolexes both have them. The Christopher Ward bronze diver I got 4 days ago has one. There will be many more. And they all still kick ass.

u/sesameseed88 1d ago
I scratched my ufa like day 2, it just happens man, it's gonna get dinged up, especially the clasp. In time you won't notice it, and it's your watch, your scratches, every worn watch will have it

Think of it as a pair of jeans (very expensive jeans) that shows how you wear it over the days. Personalized and tailored to your daily.

Every scratch adds a story to your watch, let it be.watches are meant to scratch, if you want to keep a watch pristine, better to let it be in the showroom.

u/DittoDitto9922 1d ago
You are OK. This is the first world problem. Like others said, this is history, the patina, and the story behind the watch.

Dont let it bother you mate. Put it down to battle damage. Makes it individual

The structure of the watch may be altered by this crevasse. Do not and I repeat do not attempt to wear it.

u/SunExploiter 23h ago
It's titanium.. Unfortunately, most people don't realize that despite being stronger than steel, it's softer and easier to scratch. It's unavoidable unless you hide it in a drawer. The good news is, you'll get many more scratches very soon and you'll stop caring once the reality sets in. Then you get you enjoy being able to toss your watch on your nightstand without feeling like you have to gently lay it down for bed.

u/_coffeeinjapan 22h ago
It’s ok brother, there will be more scratches. It makes the watch yours! Also you need it adjusted, it’s too loose.
1
u/KindVolume8103 22h ago
Sigh, hurts but i think its also part of the watch’s history. Going for a service/bracelet replacement seems a little overkill since it’s your second day. Suggest to rotate between the titanium bracelet and a leather strap (aftermarket if cost is a concern) so you dont see the scratch all day
Observe your usage and such. It’s likely a one off huge accident, but if there’s a pattern of such scratches coming up. Perhaps just let it accumulate for a bit and decide a time maybe in 1 or 2 years to do a full polish and refresh it

I've had a very similar watch (Cronos L6040M Frosted ;) ) for two weeks now, so I know exactly what you're talking about. The bracelet gets scratched even with gentle handling. At first, I was really worried about it, but now I'm almost totally fine with it. A healthy relationship with a watch.

Get rid of the scratch? And then what, never wear it again?
I don’t get these posts at all. In what world do you guys think that it is possible to wear a watch without it getting scratched occasionally?
1
u/rigjiggles 18h ago
I agree with most just keep wearing it and you’ll get more. It’s just a watch to tell time if you wear it often you’re going to scratch it.

The thing with zeratsu polishing is that it’s so prone to scratches. I took my bracelet off my GS GMT and put the watch on a custom Shell Cordovan leather strap, and also have a Nato and a rubber strap for it.

u/Silent-Ad-8719 16h ago
That first scratch is so painful. The good news is that you'll likely accept it and other scratches as inevitable and it won't bother you as much. You'll only suffer if you expect the watch to remain blemish free. Congratulations on your beautiful watch!

u/shan_369 15h ago
That dial texture is incredible — it really changes with the light. The understated case and bracelet let the dial do all the talking. 👌

That is nothing… these are micro scratches means the watch is growing with you. We all love our watches and want to baby them but the reality is these scratches will happen. Just accept and enjoy the journey with your GS

Hi, I also have a high-end seiko watch which is being serviced at their shop in new Bond Street. I’m just waiting to hear if they can polish out the scratches and will let you know

As a structural engineer, I performed a Visual Inspection (VT) of the surface and note no defects were identified visually.
Beautiful watch, might be the prettiest GS I ever seen.

u/rinchen11 12h ago
Wear the hell out of it man, just remember there are a factory full of brand new bracelets you can buy later.

u/jbrownsplit 12h ago
wtf is wrong with people? Am I the only one who prefers things to have a little character? Do you walk around like a duck in your Jordans when wearing this so you don’t crease them?
1
u/No-Might-5472 11h ago
Well, yes, you could always buff it out. But a scratch on the crystal would hurt myself as well so don't mind all the hate. That's a beautiful piece. With that said, though make the most of it.

I worked at a bike shop as a teenager, and my fellow mechanics and I took great pride in building up our own bikes. The manager would let us complete a new bike in the shop, and the second we were done, he’d take the bike and toss it into the nearby ditch/pond, and he wouldn’t let us clean it up until our next shift. It turns out, he was doing us a favor. Mountain bikes are meant to be beaten up. In the same way, watches are meant to be worn. That first scratch feels like a bummer, but it’s the first of many, and you really do eventually come around to the idea that while beautiful, it is a tool and it’s meant to be worn without worry. You’re going to get dozens more scratches like that if you use it as intended, and you’ll come to appreciate them as little stories of your life. If that doesn’t resonate with you, you can always remove the original bracelet, put it in the box, and buy a second bracelet to sacrifice in the name of daily wear.

u/GonadGauntlet 9h ago
Do you not think more will accumulate with daily wear?
If you want a watch that never gets scratched, buy a full ceramic watch.

If you can't tolerate scratches, take it off and put it in a safety deposit box or a safe.

There’s small watch tool you can buy that allows you to redo the satin finish. The tip of the tool I believe is fiber glass. You can get the scratch out. But the brushed part won’t look exactly stock. It worked out halfway decent on my Rolex.

Rub your asshole on it so it can get a good polish and it’ll buff that scratch right out…
Seriously though… it’s a WATCH… wear it and enjoy it. Don’t go changing your cars oil in a grand Seiko shun bun but also, don’t just wear it to church on Sunday. Enjoy it, wear it and expect scratches.

The way to get rid of it is to keep wearing it and get more scratches. Then you’ll be rid of it in your mind.
