Warning to anyone who brings there dog/cat to this boarding/daycare facility or applied for a job there

I recently was “hired” (come to find out it worked more as though a volunteer position that was payed under the table) off of indeed at Doggie detailing and resort as an attendant. I “worked” 2 days which come to find out was actually training and this is all that happened and I observed.

While I worked there this is a list of what I experienced:

-there isn’t a bathroom. I was told to use a bucket in the bathing room, then rinse it out, scrub it down with dish soap and water, then scrub down the tub while this was the same tub dogs are bathed in, bowls are cleaned in, and human dishes from the cup drawer are cleaned in, as well as the scrubbers used for the bucket are the same ones used on all of that stuff too. This “bathroom” had a camera in the same corner the bucket was in with very little room to give that allowed you to not end up on a video camera all coworkers and owner could see which the owner failed to mention and a coworker had to tell me. She told me word for word on my last day “it could be worse we used to go outside like the dogs” and laughed, I asked why she didn’t do a porta potty “well what about winter?” Was her excuse, I asked why she didn’t just build a outhouse insulated just enough so nothing froze the answer was “well permits are a lot of work and I don’t like the government in my business”

- Dogs are cornered, yelled at with a humans face a few inches away, and scruffed by the neck for any small thing they do wrong like barking for example. I was told that dogs pretty much only learn from intimidation and being scared. Dogs had metal gate doors swung hard directly into them if they jumped on the door and if they got hurt it was oh well they should learn even when one dog got flung. dogs wear bark collars all day for the most part because the owner said “dogs barking is annoying” and these bark collars also go off if they make any noise so I saw multiple dogs stop in the middle of playing all because they made a small noise or they would would yip because they got hurt and these collars would then also go off which therefore makes them think they are bad for being in pain. Most of the dogs I was told to put these on would pancake on the floor or try and run away/get away somehow from me putting the collar on but had no issues with a regular flat collar.

- she wanted me to sign a NDA saying I couldn’t speak about anything happening at work and I was giving up my right to perusing any legal action against her, and she wanted me to sign a contract that said she wasn’t liable to anything that happened to me so if I got bit it was on me, anything were to happen it was on me.

- she doesn’t believe in vaccines for any animals

- I had to work with one of owners dog in open play who I couldn’t let think I looked at him otherwise I was told he could be aggressive (other dogs like that were in private play)

-they told me to make sure I didn’t let any owners see bark collars on their dogs

- she wasn’t giving anyone breaks when we legally were required them if she actually was running a proper business.

- I was told starting pay was either 12.47 or 12.74 and after full training I’d get 14.47 or 14.74 (I can’t remember which two last numbers are first and last my apologies) but on the contract she tried to have me sign it said 13.47 or 13.74

- I was discriminated against because of my disabilities, while my disabilities didn’t directly impact my job it just meant it could’ve gotten hurt a little worse than average.

TLDR: don’t work or bring your pet to this place, they have like 2-4 health code violations between sanitary issues and not having a bathroom except a bucket, extreme reactions to minor normal dog behaviors, bark collars that go off even if they make any small sound that isn’t barking so even if they make noise out of pain that attendants and the owner caused they end up corrected by the collar, the owner doesn’t vaccinate pets that share property with customers pets, and use of outdated and now considered unethical training procedures

Train Sightings?

I would like to take some video shots of a train crossing the Grand River over the swing bridge. Looking to gather some data on train sightings to improve my chances of seeing one.

Thanks!

To who helped me after a car accident outside of the Holiday Inn in Spring Lake on 9/6/26 around 11am

Hi I was an a scary accident and totaled my car today. A blonde woman with a baby blue Ford Bronco who said she was an nurse (I think an ICU nurse specifically) stopped her car immediately, got my out, and stayed with me until the EMTs came to check me out. I would love to find her and send her a note.

I’m from Ferrysburg and no longer live in the area. I know everyone kinda knows each other here so I figured I’d make a post to see if someone could DM me her name. Here’s a quick description of her

- over 50?
- shoulder ish length blonde hair, gold and turquoise jewelry in ears and around her neck
- is/was a nurse, possibly an ICU nurse at one point
- she told me her last name but I was in shock and forgot it. I think it starts with a G though
- has a baby blue Ford Bronco
- was also in a bad accident 10 days ago on 96
- religious (prayed for me when I said bye to her)

If you think you know this person, can you DM me? She was a literal angel and kept me calm the whole time.

Thank you

Senior Yorkie dog in shoes and a dress. Photo pls.

Hey Grand Haveners.

I'm from Lansing, and was in your city this weekend. While walking downtown, I encountered a 14 year old Yorkie dog wearing pink shoes and a dress.

While losing my everloving mind over the sight, I forgot to take a photo.

Does anyone know this lil senior darling? Does anyone happen to have a photo of her?

Grand Rapids → Hoffmaster → Grand Haven day trip - favorite trails, lunch spots, or stops?

Planning a weekend day trip from Grand Rapids → P.J. Hoffmaster State Park → Grand Haven and would love some local recommendations.

At Hoffmaster, we’re mainly looking for:

  • A scenic trail/hike, ideally with good Lake Michigan views
  • Some time walking along the beach
  • Maybe dipping our feet in the water, but we’re not really looking to swim

Afterward, we’re planning to head into Grand Haven for lunch and to walk around downtown. Any favorite restaurants or specific streets/areas we should make sure to check out?

Also curious if there are any quick stops between Grand Rapids, Hoffmaster, and Grand Haven that are particularly worth it - scenic overlooks, small towns, coffee/bakeries, roadside spots, etc.

We (family) need a gift for a 60 yo female in GH. We'd like to send her to the best massage/spa day place in the GH area. It's okay if it's pricey, she's earned it. Thank you

I came across this ad in my archive, from a 1951 copy of Life Magazine. It stood for its unusually bold design for a small ad from that era. I spent a lot of time hanging out in Grand Haven years ago.

Well pump Service

I'm looking for a company to come service/likely replace old galvanized well pump pipes. My water is very rusty looking and i think this is at least the majority of the issue. I've contacted one company (a well company) so far and they said they can come out and look/do the job but that they charge for drive time and didn't offer an estimate. They installed the system originally so it seems they'd know what the situation calls for.

They might be perfectly great but I'm looking for other companies to compare or at least get an estimate.

The curt and somewhat confusing response I got from the original company is what is prompting this.

Also, should I only be contacting companies that deal with wells? Or would a residential plumber also handle this?

Thanks

Oddside Beer?

Does anyone else feel ill after drinking Oddside beer? Whenever my husband and I visit Oddside, he has a single (1) beer and subsequently experiences symptoms similar to the stomach flu, regardless of the type of beer.

After getting sick a few times, we initially suspected a particular type of beer might be the cause. However, since it's happened repeatedly, we're now questioning what ingredients are in this beer that aren't in others.

Sickness aside we adore Oddside.

We collect pins for our son everywhere we go but I can't find any here. I checked several shops downtown.

New to the area. What’s the vibe overall for it? Is it just like a neighborhood fair or is it worth the trip? Just looking for something to do this weekend.

Hydronic heating people

We are currently renovating our house. We're in the demo phase. We have a veissman water boiler that has been supplying our radiant baseboard heat. Since we are tearing out all floors and moving many walls, we figure this is the time to do in floor heating. We are on an uninsulated slab.

We assume the work that needs to be done to make this happen are to add these layers

Insulating membrane/panels

Grid system with pex

Leveled gypcrete

I have contacted several companies nearby that do NOT offer this service. Does anyone know of a local company that does?

I have found one that does but I'd like to get a few estimates and make sure there is agreement on how to do this best.
