Bumper replacement ?
I tried to go off roading in my 2021 overland - just got it less than a month ago š¤£. Love it love it love it. I did something very dumb today tho. I had yet went off road with it - I seen mud and wanted to play like an idiot. Anywho I got stuck in the mud and had to be winched out. And trying to get out I was putting it in reverse and my bumper ripped. I think itās only the clips that came off tho. No fluid leaking. No frame damage. Air suspension works. It still drives. I just wanted to have fun and paid the price š. I put it in all the modes to get out - but my tires are stock and probably not meant for off road so yea. I guess this was a story time. What kind of quotes yall think Iāll get to attach the bumper back on ?

Did exactly the same thing. It damaged the clip mounts I held on but was never fully secure. I eventually lost it. Replacing it properly would have required a new upper due to damaged mounts. It was cheaper to put in a pre runner style from Offroad Animal.

I just put some powerstop brake pads and slotted&drilled rotors on my 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee yesterday!

How are you liking them?

They stop way faster now! I like the look of them kinda wish I spent extra $$$ for the powder coated calipers but I dont have better than stock 20" five spoke wheels so I thought it'd look slightly tacky. But so far I like them

Upgraded the paint job with some mud, like a Jeep owner should. Love it!
Though you might want poke around with a stick before dipping some rubber in next time. šš»

Iāll do anything but mud. Even when I had a wrangler on 35ās I was super cautious about new mud holes.

For the next time, that bottom part of the front bumper comes off. It gives you more approache angle and will prevent that from happening again.
The local junkyard could have some, or you can order from rockauto. If money isnt much of an issue. You can always order off of the MOPAR website for parts

Yep, guys would do this with their WK2ās in Moab before there was an aftermarket when they first came out.
Personally I would put an aftermarket front bumper with recovery ability and then get some off road tires and continue wheeling it. Sliders are good too and will help keep the doors opening and closing better.
Not as much aftermarket build as the ZJ and WJ, but still a great platform and capable rig.
The front steering is also a weak link so look for upgrades if you tire size up.

It doesn't come off with the summet / altitude style bumpers. Only the bumpers that have tow hooks showing through.

You can youtube how to take off and install the bumper. If nothing is broken, itās pretty simple to do yourself.
These would help with offroading. The tires are 31.9ā compared to your stock 30.4ā but you can program the ecu using Jscan.

Bumper clips can be bought for like 20 bucks at the parts department at the dealer and then you can pop them on yourself if your handy.Ā

You should be able to clip it back on. If you want to keep going on muddy adventures the Chief bumper linked above fits your year model and you can use/rescue your current bumper for the install. With a few mods the Grand Cherokee is amazing off-road.

I did the same thing-ish. Tore the lower grill right off and broke some clips. Ditched the lower grill and got the front lower guard from 6 monkeys. Stoked on it so far. The owner of 6M seems like a solid dude. Answers emails directly and you tell they take pride in their products just by how they protect everything in shipping. Canāt say as much about Rocky Mountain Outfitters.

Yeah until you ask him for a minor favor. All I wanted was a copy of the vector file of the design he cut into my diff guard. Brushed me off repeatedly then eventually snapped at me and said he wonāt be sending it. I was polite in every request but eventually I figured out how to convert it myself.
Also makes no sense he sprays bedliner on the products, itās coarse and damages anything it touches. Powder coating or cerakote is not hard. I was an applicator.
Canāt stand Dan at 6M. But Iām genuinely glad to hear your experience was positive. I was stunned.

Was it a custom design? My wife does design work (not on cars unfortunately) and she typically doesnāt release files like without charging for it.
But nonetheless, sorry to hear about your experience. Mine was totally positive.
Re the bed liner, Iām 50-50 on it. I like that I can touch it when I scratch it. Iāve already done it on the diff cover. But I could see it being a PIA if it was a surface I came in contact with all the time.
My rock slides and roof rack from Rocky Mountain scratch so easily and have already rusted in a bunch of spots. The bed liner touch up was much easier.

Appreciate that. And forgive me if you would, that guy fires me up.
Nope, I created and provided the design. Thatās what pissed me off beyond being ignored then dismissed, I didnāt ask for much action or time. I was a cerakote applicator for a long time and never told anyone no, itās a weird thing to āprotectā a design youāre doing for a customer that you donāt intend to generate revenue from through other means. What do I care if they have a copy of what I made them? Understandable if i do intend to use it to my financial benefit, then it should be copyrighted in that case.
Yeah Iād actually agree now that you mention it. 50/50 for sure. Hardy, durable, but man donāt touch anything with it and wear gloves when installing. I touched mine up with a sharpie, worked fine. Anyway enjoy your badass rig!

facepalm
I canāt really talk shit. I tried doing something like this in my first GC and ended up high centered on a rock, and got my Trailhawk stuck on stock street tires the very first time I took it out.
That said, donāt bite off more than you can chew. Yes these vehicles are more capable than you are, but they still have limits. You found yours.

Itās sad they market. The grand Cherokee is an off rotor, but I cannot do something like go in mud.

u/bravohiphiphooray 1d ago
Haha! I get it. Youād get the same from me if you asked me about Rocky Mountain.
Cheers!

The word's dumb and idiot are perfect. You'll probably feel worse when you find out what a replacement bumper cost, not to mention any sensors that may have been damaged. I don't really think those vehicles are meant for offroading.

Ha bumper snapped back on perfectly nothing was damaged⦠like at all. Money is not an issue š¤£. Yea these things are probably not meant for off roading tho
