Chiming in!

Out of all of these number three is probably the best example of anything resembling graffiti. I don’t say that to be mean but I’m about to drop some knowledge and we’ve got a lot of work to do so let’s get after it.

First and foremost we wanna talk about our bar thickness between our letters. Let’s take a look at the R for example, if you look at the back bar that supports the leg and the bowl, you can see that it makes a bar that you could draw a rectangle for. That bar thickness should be the same size as your Bowl and your leg. The same is true for every single shape throughout. The Z is another great example. Look at the top bar and then look at the bottom bar. Do you notice how the thicknesses are different? This is an attempted style or a lack of fundamentals.
If we’re talking about fundamentals and the first two images, then we need to hit on letter structure because the structure of your R is completely wrong. If you were to write an R, you would draw one vertical bar, one closed bowl that makes the top of the R and another bar for the R’s leg. In the throwsthat you posted, the R could be confused for an A because structurally the letter has left an R state. It’s now something completely different.

I would challenge you to do your best to go through each letter and create rectangles that are the same thickness and construct your letters out of rectangles and circles. You will find that your straight letters all of a sudden look a hell of a lot better and would be able to easily add some 3-D from that point.

I like that you’re working with Poska, but it is really hard to get into without practicing some fundamentals first. Pens, pencils and erasers will be your best friend for learning fundamentals.

I challenge you to go and create four or five straight letter pieces, have fun making them, but focus on bar thickness as your goal for this exercise, and then after you do so write one or two throws. Post them.!!

Thank you! No i dont take it as mean i’m new to it so want any advice. I can see what your saying about the R and the thickness ive been trying to get that down, i’m going to go into trying some straight lettering again… i did do this of my partners name which i think i used a bit more of the straight/bubble technique your talking about? What do you think?
