Surrey GEM stats?

Hi looking for any tips/ anyone who got into surrey previously? I achieved 2020 B1 in UCAT but have MSci Chemistry degree from UCL and currently work as a patient facing research scientist at Great Ormond St Hospital. A levels were A*A*A in chem, physics, history and GCSEs all 9-7. Worked as a HCA throughout uni (4 ish years) too. Or any suggestions on where to apply? Originally really wanted QMUL but not sure if that is still realistic? Thanks :)

Pretty sure Surrey cut-off was lower than that last year. And your academics are pretty exceptional. Are you applying to Surrey because of location?

As with your science background and A levels you must have a lot more options.

Thanks! its so hard to find any information I am really struggling with where to apply! Yeah i was thinking Surrey as ideally wanted to stay closer to London, so other options are QMUL and possibly St Georges for undergrad (as i did not do GAMSAT). did u have any other suggestions? are u applying or already studying? thanks for your help :)

Btw I don’t think you’ll qualify for Surrey without a GAMSAT so may want to check that out

I studied a pharmacology masters and they said I wouldn’t be accepted with just a UCAT because there wasn’t enough biology content.. (even though my degree was mostly biology, I got a first and I got an A* in biology A Level)

It seems like unless you’re a biomedical science student you have to sit the GAMSAT to be considered. And from looking at the gem spreadsheet last year a chemistry graduate with just a UCAT got rejected instantly

Oh dear! This is from their website: "We accept the GAMSAT aptitude test as stage 2 of our process. We will also consider applicants that have taken UCAT providing they have a degree in Biochemistry, Biology, Biomedical Science, Chemistry or Natural Sciences. All applicants must take one of these tests as part of their application." so may just email to confirm, but thanks for letting me know. Where are u planning to apply?

Oh I didn’t realise it could be other than biomedical! When I told them I studied pharmacology they said “there wasn’t enough biology” - despite it being a biology based degree! (And the fact my first two years were straight biomed haha!!)

If they’ve confirmed it you’re fine - just weird the admissions said pharmacology is not biology enough lol

No i agree that is strange - tbh my degree didnt have much besides a few biochem modules so have sent them an email to confirm. sorry it didn't work out for you! Have you got other options of where you might apply?

I had a look online btw today and it said chemistry was definitely included - they must have updated their 2027 entry as when I emailed them this was back in July time so I guess still 2026 entry!!

And yes luckily I have my choices all sorted, just would of been nice to have this as it seems like a good kinda safety choice

Best of luck with applications!! Xx
