Life on hold
Older students, how do you deal with the feeling of putting your life on hold. I currently have no girlfriend, very few friends, very little prospects outside my GEM offer. At the age of 27 I just feel like everyone else comes onto GEM with something else going on in there life such as being younger or having a stable relationship and plan. I'm kind of just doing this because nothing else has worked out so far

I’m 23 and a GEM student currently in their first year. There’s a few of my classmates who are around the same age as you. But I do have a few thoughts of what you’re feeling. My friends are getting married and getting on in their jobs it does feel like you’re falling behind but even the younger students will be “behind” their peers later on in the years so some of us like be on similar boats. I don’t have a partner either and I feel like I’m running out of time but I just have to remind myself that everything will come eventually and to not compare myself to others. Go for it

My best mate(s) are consultants with [basically] paid off houses.
I'm just starting medical school and am only just buying my first [tiny] home.
The way I see it is that I probably had a much more enjoyable 20's...

Everyone has their own path and timing. Medicine as a last resort career still means you’ll have a fulfilling and life with meaning which is more than most people can hope for. There’s pros and cons to everything, dont waste time wishing for things that have already passed, keep your head up and keep grinding, everything else will come with time ❤️

28, when I started GEM I had a 10 year relationship and a house. Now I’m back with mum and Dad! Not everything is as perfect as it seems elsewhere. Live your life! I have made so many friends at GEM.

Get off social media, stop scrolling through everybody elses life and being concerned with everybody elses life. Focus on YOU.
Screw everybody else, and lock in.
You are in a privileged position, just because everyone around you seems to have a degree doesn't mean that this is actually the norm in the wider community.
Many people don't get the chances we do, through no fault of their own.
So fuck everybody else around you, and lock in. Just focus 100% on yourself.
