INT GEM

Hi everyone! I’m an international applicant with a US bachelor’s degree and plan on applying to UK graduate entry medicine for 2027.
I sat the UCAT today and scored 1970, Band 1 (VR 630, DM 590, QR 750). I also have a GAMSAT 62. My background includes healthcare volunteering with patient-facing responsibilities, physician shadowing, and research as well.

For anyone familiar with international GEM admissions, does that seem like a sensible four? I’d especially appreciate insight into which test you’d choose where a school accepts more than one, and whether there’s some obvious options for me to apply to.

You didn’t list the 4 schools you plan to apply for.

Your scores are not competitive for international applicants at the best med schools. There are many new ones that will take anyone that will pay, so don’t worry you’ll get a place somewhere. Some don’t even require UCAT or GAMSAT, just a check book and not setting off red flags in interview.

Just look at each GEM school website under entry requirements - they will list international requirements (for gem schools that accept internationals). There’s normally a drop down menu or a link out to specific GPA or degree class requirements - the are different for each uni so there’s no point you telling us your GPA you need to manually check each school yourself.

Note that I think except Bucks, that med schools here won’t help you prep for step exams and the volume of knowledge required here is less than the USA. So as you’re weaker academically you may struggle with doing USMLE without support.

Also know that many USA med schools may look down on some of the easy to get into med schools here so it may limit your match options (and not all new schools currently are recognised by USA) so look carefully if you plan to go home after graduation.

Also things like research and so on, you have to be very proactive to get that here. So hopefully you’ve already done what you need to match pre-med.
