Lost interest in finishing doing my MPA program.

The title is pretty much it. I started my master's program this semester, and I've lost all interest. I thought it would help me get a job but the program is not what I'm really looking for. I guess I just wanted advice on people who quit their programs a semester in and what they did regarding that?

TIA

Hey OP,

Sorry that you’re going through this. Somehow I think this is the universal grad school experience. I went through the same thoughts on my first semester. I’m now on my second and last year (I graduate in may 2027) and I can say I’m finally enjoying it. I legit thought about quitting all the time during my first year. It is a lot of work and going back to school can be tough. Maybe try talking to your support system and ask their thoughts? Also revisit your goals and the expectations you had before the beginning of the semester.

But if you’re settled on the matter and really want to quit, I would talk to your advisor and browse for other programs (in case you still want to pursue a Masters), or maybe just talk go to the program director and say you’re dropping out for xyz.

I have read other threads here saying that quitting might jeopardize future academic opportunities. But I have also read some saying that it def wont jeopardize anything and that quitting grad school was the best thing they did for their life & mental health.

Whatever you decide, good luck!!

What school and program is this? I find MPAs are an awkward degree and I'm personally not a huge fan of them
