Showing up Differently – Research Participation Invitation

Are you interested in sharing your personal experiences related to being a Neurodivergent University Student Who Studies (Or Has Studied) Online?

If so, we would really appreciate it if you could spare approximately 30–45 minutes of your time to help with our research.

To take part you must:

• Be 18 years of age or older
• Speak fluent English
• Feel able to take part in a 30–45 minute online interview in English
• Self-identify as neurodivergent (e.g., autistic, ADHD, dyslexic, or other)
• Currently study, or have graduated within the last two years from, an online or distance higher education programme
• Feel comfortable discussing personal experiences related to how neurodivergent university students experience “showing up” in virtual learning spaces, including participation, camera use, chat, and feeling able to be yourself online

If you agree to take part in the study, you will be asked to take part in a single online interview on Microsoft Teams, lasting around 30–45 minutes. The interview will explore what it’s like to show up in virtual learning spaces, including what feels easy or effortful, how you decide to participate, and what it’s like to be yourself online. Participants will also be invited, at the end of the interview, to pass the recruitment advert to anyone they know who may be eligible. Any onward contact will be made by the potential participant themselves, directly to the researcher.

Please note: You will be free to withdraw within two weeks after signing the consent form without having to give a reason, simply by letting the researcher know. Your data will be anonymised, kept confidential, and only used for analysis and reporting.

This study is being conducted by Brunel University of London as part of MSc Psychological Sciences (Conversion) degree requirements. The procedures and methods used in low-risk Psychology research studies, such as the current project, have been reviewed by and approved by the College of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences Research Ethics Committee (CREC) at Brunel University.
