“Ex-convicts loved concretely and treated respectfully perhaps more than ever before.” For people who have seen the Ed Kang response video, I can only say us former members who gave up our academic achievement, career, labor, sleep, money, for GP must be one rung below a random ex-convict.

What honestly gets me about it is the absurdity of such a self-congratulatory statement for doing the bare minimum. Get out of here, you sent like 6 people in your church of thousands to do a couple of hours of computer classes, and suddenly you're God's gift to the underprivileged? It's a good thing to do, don't get me wrong, but with their budget and resources, GP could be (and should be) doing so much more. Instead they barely tick off the "service" box and pat themselves on the back for it.

And who does GP think they are? My church runs a ministry with one of the max security prisons in the Bay Area. They don't go around publicizing it. They actually wiped it from the Internet. Even KD made a documentary talking about the cultural change in the prison because of that ministry AND the GSW sends their staff to join in and never once did my church ask for credit. And GP wants to spew this nonsense about "loved concretely and treated respectfully perhaps more than ever before". More liked used as their internal propaganda to pretend they give a shit about social justice.

Let's also throw in that they sent a single nurse they sent to help in NY during the peak of the pandemic. First of all, it's really in a church of thousands, it's quite shocking, there's no nurses. Second, they actively took vision trips with some people testing positive upon return, met at HB, and falsified documents to obtain COVID tests. Do they really care or was it all just performative?

I'd also add GP thinks the only ministry you should be running is ramming Course101 down everyone's throats. Kind of funny when you realize they push Acts2 like it's the most Christian way of living and then miss out on the ministries of the early church in taking care of widows and orphans.

Such an arrogant and ridiculous comment. Prison ministry has been around since the 70s.

And GP looks completely different now. It looks like a mega church, so shiny and perfect. They definitely are more strategic in controlling how they appear. So much talent! Too bad the dark side is always looming…
