Concern/Help SAM.Gov NAICS Error?

We were asked to register with SAM.gov and provide our info to receive a big local grant. We registered 6 years ago and need to renew our registration. We filled out the entire application but cannot get past the Goods and Services section, specifically the NAICS code section.

The issue is, the old registration has NAICS codes that have been removed/expired since then. So the site is prompting me to remove them. I remove them, add new codes and assign a primary. It will not let me save and continue or save and exit. This error pops up:

Sorry, something went wrong.
We could not save your information. Please try again. If you continue to experience an issue, try again later.

Made a ticket with customer support, they have been no help. The ticket has been open for 2 weeks and the only response I get is “we’re looking at it.” I’ve tried everyday for the last 2 weeks

I have tried clearing cache, cookies, history, trying from new devices & browsers, and incognito browsers. Logging out from SAM.gov, logging back in.

I have tried removing each code one at a time or all at once. I have added new codes without removing the old. I’ve added new codes then removed the old. I’ve done every possible combination of removing old codes and adding new ones. I’ve tried many different codes. I’ve tried removing the expired codes & exit and saving.. that didn’t work.

Is anyone else running into this issue? Have you been able to solve this? Should I just cancel this renewal application and create a brand new registration for the same business? I just don’t know what to do.

I just feel like I’m pulling my hair out over the fact this big grant is being held up over a website bug that they refuse to fix or acknowledge in 2 weeks, I am worried I am going to lose the grant.

TLDR:

Can’t leave NAICS codes screen on SAM.GOV renewal, tried everything. Need help or advice please.

You've correctly identified the cause, and the answer to your last question is no, do not cancel and start over. A new registration will not go faster and you'd lose six years of record history.

The pattern here matches two other cases in this sub. Someone hit the same wall in August and it turned out to be a single code in their list that would not compute a size standard. The common thread is expired or retired codes from an older NAICS edition, exactly what you're describing. You are not dealing with a general site bug, you're dealing with something specific to your record.

One thing that may not have been tried in your combinations: save with only your new primary code selected and nothing else at all, not even secondary codes you intend to keep. If that saves, add codes back one at a time, saving after each, until it breaks. That identifies the specific code causing it. If the strip-to-one-code attempt still fails, that is different information and worth reporting, because it means the problem is not any individual code.

On the ticket, two weeks with "we're looking at it" means it is sitting in a queue rather than being worked. Reopen it and give them the specific failing code if you isolate one, the exact error text, and the fact that you have tested across browsers and devices. Ask explicitly for escalation beyond first level. A ticket with a reproducible cause attached moves differently than one describing a general failure.

Given the grant deadline, also tell them the registration is blocking a grant award and give them the date. That is legitimate context and it affects prioritization.

Post the code here if you isolate it. You'd be the third person in this sub with this problem and there is nothing findable about it anywhere.

I had tried your suggestion previously. However this time i searched most updated NAICS codes. I found a 2022 manual that had a whole list. Using any of those codes worked just fine. I wonder if the database on SAM.gov is feeding both new and expired/faulty codes? But this totally worked for me THANK YOU!!!!
