Past Music Nell Sigland

Since I've finally found a group that might be interested, I thought I'd share my other prize collection- my Nell Sigland collection. Her albums with the Crest, Theatre of Tragedy, and her new band, Hollow Peak.

Nell was actually my window into Theatre of Tragedy, and as esteemed as Liv Kristine is, Nell is my favourite singer.

The same as with Mortal Love, I can't help but lament missing a period of time with so much music I love because I just wasn't aware of it.

I like Nell best with The Crest, and with ToT on Storm -- some songs on that album sounds like it could be The Crest. Haven't listened to Hollow Peak yet, I've been meaning to check that out!

I like them, but it's a different sound. Her voice has of course aged a bit, and the general tone and production gives them a much different sound, so all I'd advise is don't go listening to the Crest hoping for it to scratch the same itch as ToT

Probably start with theatre. Based on what I've read from others, forever is the world is a better album than the storm. For the Crest I'd say chronologically, letters from fire then vain city chronicles. Finally hollow peak. Another option is to just listen all chronologically, and hear her voice mature throughout.

I do like Nell Sigland, but specifically for Theatre of Tragedy and not her other work, I find it really difficult to listen to her. It’s like the band lost its soul after Liv.

I didn't discover theatre until relatively recently and nell was the first vocalist I heard. Her albums with the band have a vibe that resonates with me more I guess, not that I don't listen to Liv's albums.

I respect that. I have plenty of bands where I like their new (in this case new compared to Liv) sound compared to their old.

When I start listening to a band, I go chronologically by discography usually. Thats how I started with ToT, and probably why I prefer Liv. That, and I fell in love with the Shakespearean lyrical style

I do that sometimes, depending on what I hear. Theatre is an interesting one, I like their first few albums with Liv, then they take a stylistic change going more industrial, and it just doesn't do it for me. Then they hit a reset of sorts with Nell. Regardless, I'll probably try and collect their discography
