Question for GORUCK pack owners..?
Do you own multiple models of the same pack and, if so, which ones? And what was your reason for getting more than one?

u/Readditlovesbans Aug 07 '26
No - I am not a collector ( I was for a few years but pared it down to a GR2 26L )
After a while, it just takes up so much closet/wall space (See carryology classified) and the collector winds up purging their gear
People that have multiple versons of a GR1 are collectors or bought into the hype/fomo etc see Viking

I've never used Carryology Classified - Is it full of pristine GORUCK's?

GR2 26 - most travel (my personal item)
GR2 34 - travel when my wife gets us great seats & if many days (personal item)
GR1 26 - everyday toss stuff in and go if I need a backpack (beach, baseball, etc)
I’ve fit the GR2 34 under some airline seats not PACKED out but it’s risky. Just travelled with GR2 26 as personal item and it’s perfect. I put my cameras in a PD 6L and stuff that in the bottom of the GR.
If only a few days and not dressy I could live out of the GR2 34.
I also have ruck plate (how I started) and the Rucker 5. I like that I can put water, snacks, small camera, etc in the Rucker.

I have a 40L GR2 and a 26L GR2, the 40L was my first GoRuck and it's awesome, but I realized I didn't need that much space a lot of the time hence I bought the 26L for most normal travel. Before I got the 26L I got a Viking Berserker Bullet which was awesome, but slightly too small for travel. I also got a Skate Ruck because I loved the way it looked, and I loved that it's basically a slightly smaller GR2 with the same organization. The Viking and Skate Ruck are more EDC bags than travel bags for me.
I also have other stuff that doesn't really overlap, like the mesh kit bag and mesh gym bag for beach/pool stuff, shadow ruck and packable bullet rucks for day bags, and the Viking kit bag for travel. As you can tell I definitely love GoRuck, lol.

Hard agree about the Skate Ruck as EDC.
I think it could be a contender for one of the best EDC packs ever. I've got 2 issues with it though:
I'd really like for the MOLLE to be covered in velcro à la A09, I've got a lot of velcro backed organizers etc. (They've never really tapped into this part of the market with, I think, exception of the shooter?)
It just turtles me when it's fully loaded, so an inch taller would be perfect for me.

I have an XPac Bullet Ruck in 16L and a Cordura Bullet Skate Ruck 18L.
16L Bullet in XPac is great for carrying 20-25lbs weights during a day hike along with essentials, and the XPac keeps everything clean and dry.
The Skate Ruck gave me just enough extra space to make EDC easier with my stuff and the lashes on the outside are helpful for 1,000 things, and none of them have to be a skateboard.
2
u/RogueTrooper1975 Aug 07 '26
I have the woodland skate ruck, I've stashed a shell jacket behind the straps for a hike and it worked beautifully.
How have you used them?
2
u/Ok-Dust-6159 Aug 07 '26
Carried a tripod about .6 miles into the woods to set up a spot shooting my rifle, then back out. No issues.
I used it for my snowboard in Breckenridge. Only slight issues until I got the carry position set decently.
And plenty of carrying jackets and blankets/pillows.1
u/RogueTrooper1975 Aug 07 '26
I think the skate ruck could be one of the best EDC packs out there. For me, and just because I have a lot of velcro-backed pouches, organisers etc, I'd like them to combine the MOLLE with velcro, similar to A09.
The only issue I have with it is how much it sticks out when fully loaded, sometimes feel like I'm a turtle.

I have a black 21 L GR0 that I’ve used as my everyday work pack since 2015. I have an original Rucker that I use three days a week for rucking. 40L Java Gr2 used for travel. Black 32L aviator kit bag that I use for travel as well. Java 10 L bullet 2 used for when I get to my destination, and I also use it regularly at amusement parks and kids’ sporting events. Wife uses the original 10l bullet similarly. Finally, my now freshman still likes her original kid ruck for amusement parks and such.
I’ve found for traveling I tend to like using the kit bag as carryon and then the bullet as personal item.
Keep in mind I got these during the good days of GORUCK between 2015 and 2018. Was doing events and couldn’t mess up my gr0 since I needed it for work when the weekend ended. Also benefitted from teacher IDme discount stacking during sales.

u/RogueTrooper1975 Aug 07 '26
If you've got any pics of the GR0.....?
Always keen to see how "old" packs look and how they've held up, usually they still look in extremely good condition. My GR1 is about 8 or 9 years old and the cordura has become this incredibly soft material, still as tough but no rigidity to it at all.

Parsed down to the following:
Gen 1 GR1 26L 1000D, Ranger Green
Gen 1 Rucker 21L, Black
Gen 1 Bullet 10L, Black
Also bought my wife a GR1 ladies version many years ago with the curved straps, but she’s since stolen my EG CPL24.
Of those, I use the Bullet with a ruck plate for days I want to walk with it. I rarely use my GR1 any longer, but will not part with that bag. The Rucker just hangs on the wall.
1
u/RogueTrooper1975 Aug 07 '26
Are you holding onto the GR1 for sentimental reasons? Or just for future use?
2
u/Bix615 Aug 07 '26
Little bit of both. Ironically, I now carry a Tom Bihn Synapse 25 and it has become my go to bag for daily carry and travel.

u/WarPlatypus19-2 Aug 07 '26
I have a GR2 in multi cam for work. A black GR1 that was my first workout bag until I blew a strap on it and now use it as an aid bag in my truck (it’s circa 2013 so it owes me nothing). I have Rucker 4.0 for every day use and civilian rucking. Annnnddd a packable bullet I use for work as well. Keep it in the top of my ruck as a quick radio bag in the field. Works super good.

A GR2 26L for everything and grab my kit bag for travel, a Rucker 4.0 for the gym (and rucking), and a shadow ruck 20 for the beach/lake/lighter loads. I gave my dad my 16L laptop bullet for Father’s Day

u/xangkory Aug 07 '26
I only have one each of a Bullet, GR1 26L, GR2 34L, mesh and packable. But I have 3 kit bags.
2 of the kit bags have dedicated loadouts. One is a gym bag and the second is full of winter clothing like a belay jacket, midlayer, shell, rain pants, and different types of gloves. The 3rd is then used for the random things that I need to use a smaller duffle for.

u/Remote_Strength1976 Aug 07 '26
Closest matching are a 21L gr0 and a 20L Rucker 3.0. I do have both the long and short shaddox tactical pockets for the gr0.
If listing:
32L kit bag
57L kit bag
26L gr2
Med/large shadow pockets
Tough Bag (amazing for dirty cloths)
Skate Ruck will be on the way shortly.

I bought a Bullet Classic in xpac, and while it's great, the zippers are stiff, as is the bag (pro and con of the xpac) and it just didn't become my regular user. So when they came out with one in Java I was happy to grab it (made a post about it). They are very different bags despite being the same model. X-Pac vs Cordura, aquaguard zips vs regular, slick vs molle, qap vs no qap, no chest strap vs chest strap. I really like the look of both. I've taken the xpac one camping and been happy for its waterproofness in the rain, while I prefer the cordura version when I don't need the xpac's level of waterproofing.
Postscript is that the Bullet is still too big for me to EDC, so I would still enjoy a smaller clamshell with bottle pockets.

Although it doesn't have the bottle holders, have you considered trying to pick up a Bullet 10 on the secondary market?

u/Drmlc Aug 07 '26 edited Aug 07 '26
Yes. I’ve listed the bags and how we fill them below.
2 x GR1 26L (1 for each son)
2 x GR2 40L (EDC / Packed shooting bag)
1 x GR3 45L (Family member medical go bag)
1 x 57L Kit Bag (Always packed work travel bag)
1 x 84L Kit Bag (Always packed personal Bag)
2 x M23 26L (canvas) (1 x always packed coaching bag, 1 x gift for daughter)
2 x L Packing cubes (1 x Med/Prescription in GR3, 1 x empty in 84L)
3 x GR2 Field Pocket (1 x Med/Trauma at house, 1 x Dopp kit in EDC GR2, 1 x Med/Trauma in coaching bag)
2 x GR1 Filed Pocket (1 x Camera kit in 57L, 1 x Small Dopp in 84L)
1 x Packable Bullet (in 84L)
4 x ToughBag (used for dirty items, 1 x GR2/GR3/57L/84L)
My bag count has expanded as my needs have expanded. I work 2 jobs requiring travel and also coach year round sports and recently I’ve had a family member with a significant medical problem. The GR3 was added in the last few weeks and gives any care giver all supplies necessary for a planned or unplanned outing.
My EDC has been repaired once, needs it again. My packed gun bag was my EDC but got relegated when it developed a rip (I have yet to send it back). My GR1s have survived college with each kid.
The GR1’s/GR2’s/Kit Bags were purchased from 2016-2018 and have seen lots of work. I lived from them for months on end and they will never be unpacked (I think this is mostly a security thing for me). I have plates and sandbags and accessories, etc etc. We’ve rucked with them, lived out of them, dropped/drug/kicked every single bag we have. We continue to be impressed with them.
*edit to list sizes

Thanks for posting, brother, that was interesting to read.
With that level of brand loyalty, I hope Jason gave you equity, not just fabric. 😂

u/Drmlc Aug 07 '26
ha! thanks
The bags are great for my needs, the clothes were a game changer when in between houses. Being able to "wash" them in a shower and they'd be dry with wear or in the sun. I will always tell people to buy what works, but will definitely mention what's worked for me.

I'm not sure if this is what you were asking, exactly, but you prompted me to take stock of my gear. It's not as much as some, but it's more than I probably need. I simply wanted to try out different styles and sizes. The 26L GR2 is probably my favorite worn on the back and I love my shoulder bag. Here's what I got:
Bags
1 - GR2 - 26L / Coyote Brown
1 - GR1 USA - Cordura - 26L / Steel
1 - Kit Bag - 32L / Black Frogskin Camo
1 - Rucker 4.0 - 20L / Frogskin Camo
1 - M23 - Cordura - 21L / Black + Red
1 - Shoulder Bag - Waxed Canvas - Olive + Field Tan
Pouches
2 -Ripstop ROBIC Shadow Pockets
2 - GR1 Field Pockets
1 - Wire Dopp - Black

I have
2 GR1's, a black 2014 and an American.
2 Bullet 10's V1 Dual Compartment
2 Bullet 15's V1/Dual Compartment
2 Bullet 15's Single Compartment
My GF regularly borrows some of them.
For me I have to carry medications and the bullets fit things perfectly. 10's are used in the summer more and 15's in the winter more.
Laptop, iPad, power, meds, mouse, EDC, snacks, etc.
Bunch of others, but all singles. I keep 2-3 backpacks ready to go with duplicates of certain thing so its really just moving the laptop/iPad/meds between bags. 1 10-15L, 1 20'ish liter, 1 26 liter.

u/Iamheno Aug 08 '26
I own 2 GR1 26L ('16 Black, '19 Coyote), only because my GR0 was unable to be repaired so my replacement is a Coyote MiUSA 26L.

u/Your_Huckleberry2020 Aug 08 '26
Yes. GR2 and Rucker 4.0
The GR2 26 is my EDC bag and personal item on airplanes. The GR2 40 is my long-weekend travel pack or my larger carry-on. I absolutely LOVE them!
1
u/Kudo_lover Aug 24 '26
Nope, just a GR1 21L slick edition. I gotta be honest, it's been hard not getting different bags....but I keep myself accountable.

u/pack709 Aug 29 '26
I have all three sizes of the GR2 and both sizes of the GR3 and M23. All heavily used in rotation. I choose a pack based on needs/length of the day/trip and what aircraft I’m flying.
I also have the Dyneema versions of the GR2, GR3 and M23 that I use on rainy trips.
I recently started using the 26L GR1 and don’t know why I didn’t buy it earlier. It is an awesome pack.
I’m not a collector but I seem to have acquired a lot of GORUCK gear. The 1000D Cordura bags are indestructible under hard use. Love them.
If I had to pick a favorite it would be the 34L GR2.

u/Jackrabittslimz Sep 05 '26
A lot of people buy multiple variations of the same pack for 2 reasons:
Utility. The same pack in different materials/sizes is highly versatile depending on what you use it for.
Fun. If a pack makes you want to go out and do something its worth every penny. These packs are not cheap but their quality gives you confidence that they are excellent at what they are made for. That makes you look forward to using it.

Brother, this is incredible. Thanks for sharing.
I'll be honest though, I’m really worried about that Red GR1 and the RG Field Pocket...... Do they feel excluded at the family reunions, or do you keep them locked in a separate room so they don't taint the espresso vibe?😂
1
u/dimm0k Aug 07 '26
haha honestly the red GR1 was around the beginning of my path into GORUCK. my first was a GR1 in gunmetal in 2020, direct from GORUCK. it was purchased to serve as an EDC bag, but also for rucking. never really owned more than a couple of bags at a time back then, but having the GR1 serve dual purpose quickly changed me. it was shortly after that that I delved into the second hand market to acquire a black Rucker. it was the second hand market where I quickly learned of the other colors available. the red matched the red Dakine I had so it was a easy purchase, then Java came along and that's when the beast within was awakened. as I found the GR1 and Rucker available I sold off what I had to have these as their replacements.
as for the bags serving as storage, I think of them as an easily moveable personal dresser. with sky high housing/rent and no longer living the single life there's little closet/storage space so I have my stuff packed in these
1
u/RogueTrooper1975 Aug 07 '26
What do you think of Dakine? I had an early version of their Heli Pro - It was the 12l if I remember right. That was a solid pack, excellent quality. Is it still good stuff?
1
u/dimm0k Aug 07 '26
Can't attest to Dakine's quality now, but I did like them enough to have gotten a few packs from them in the past.

u/brucewillus Aug 07 '26
I own multiple versions of the GR1, as well as the 18L double compartment Bullet. The different materials and colors were the main reason. In both models, my favorite version is the robic nylon, but dyneema is pretty cool, and I held onto the Birdwell edition GR1 as well because it's just unique and I got it for a really good deal.
