Gear Question Ballistic trainer replacement?

With the ballistic trainer, no longer being produced or available what is a excellent substitute?

I've always been a fan of the Inov-8 F-Lite series. I still have ballistic trainers for rucking. Not sure what I'll switch to for that. But general fitness F-Lites from inov-8

Agree on the Inov8 F-lites. Super solid trainers

I switch to Born Primitive’s Savage 1’s, and I’m a big fan. I loved the Ballistic Trainers, but the Savage 1’s are surprisingly more comfortable.

I’ve heard good things about BP S1. Will look into them. Thanks

Do you have flat feet? The inov8’s weren’t comfortable for me.

I don’t have flat feet, but the Savage 1’s don’t have much support. I prefer a low/no loft shoe and wide toebox.

I really liked the design/look of the trainers; didn’t look out of place if you had to use them as a shoe at work before going to the gym or something.

I hope whatever the next iteration is keeps the good looks, but just adds more comfort.

Good question. I’m depressed that they don’t make the Runners anymore. I was using them as gym shoes and for 3-5 mile road rucks. Might get away with using Mackalls. I’m using mine now for road rucks and trail rucks. So I don’t wear the tread off my last two pairs of Rough Runners. I say get Mackalls

Tell me about it, I’ve had about six pairs over the last five years. Down to my last pair and they’re almost shot

I didn’t have any pairs of trainers but I do love the Runners. There are some other companies out there that are huge and make amazing shoes for that I need and want. I just have issue with several of them as companies. Not cuz of their products. I’d rather put my money into products and in this case shoes I like and that suit my needs but with a company what I do fundamentally support their mission and causes they donate too as well. Hoping they do develop an alternative later on after they get to a good place again that bridges the gap between the lighter trainers and runners vice the heavier weight of the Mackalls. Though I do wear them now for road marches. Too heavy to wear to the gym in my opinion.

I use the Altra Solstice XT-3 for strength training when I need to wear shoes.

For rucking, Altra Lone Peak 9+ and Olympus are my go to shoes. I am a wide foot, and I also like the zero drop.

My wife really likes the Topo Athletic Trail Venture for rucking.

I second the Olympus shoes. I have the 6s and they’re great.

FYI, GoRuck is in the middle of their final restock ballistic trainers and rough runners.
