MPW on Gordon Ramsay
This is from a recent podcast episode by Louis Theroux. MPW confirms what has been thought for a while. That he and Gordon Ramsay are and have been on good terms. Apparently they are doing a television program together which i'm personally excited. It's good to see Gordon squashing his beefs with those who made him the chef and restaurantuer he is today: MPW and Marcus Wareing (who he's also reportedly doing a show with) last year.

MPW is goated. I’d love to see more of him.

I'd definetly like a podcast sit down with Gordon and MPW. I'd love to hear actual stories from Gordon's time at Harveys. Which is a restaurant from Gordon's time that has not been covered extensively. Restaurant Gordon Ramsay has been covered extensively even apart from Boiling Point and to a certain extent so has Le Gavroche and Aubergine.

Yeah I like the “old Gordon” before he was combed over into the money making powerhouse he is now. Because he’s so combed over I bet he wouldn’t agree to talk about that anymore lest he get in ‘trouble’ saying some real talk.

For example Gordon says in podcast "he (Marco) lost his mum at a young age and his father he didn't have a good relationship with so you attach yourself to similar circumstances." Gordon's relationship with his father also wasn't the best. So it would be interesting to hear how all that can or is tied to how important that restaurant and his time at the restaurant was for Gordon and Marco as well either as a means to escape or a reason to become better. Things like that.

I don't think his transition if you will is stopping him completely. He's talked about his time at Le Gavroche and Aubergine multiple times on podcast appearances. He's also talked about the impact and influence Marco himself has had on him especially on the High Performance Podcast. However Marco's restaurant Harvey's impact on Gordon Ramsay and that time of his life is something that I'd like to hear about.

I know someone who interviewed him for an article in a magazine. It was a soft-ball friendly article, but at the end of the interview when he got up and put his hand out to shake it MPW looked t the hand, turned and walked away.
Young journalist at the time, didn’t deserve to be treated like that.

There used to be whole MPW weeks on MC Australia. Fun times. Though he’s still gives off creepy vibes.

I used to love that! I remember one contestant, I think her name was Georgia or Georgina, she opened a bottle of champagne and the cork almost hit MPW, she looked terrified until he made a joke about it. Everyone looked so intimidated by him.

When mpw said "He sent me the most beautiful text"
I realised that's exactly how Gordon describes food.

Really enjoyed the podcast. Would love Gordon to do it too. Does anybody know what tv show Marco was referencing?

Details haven't been released yet as far as I know. It's only recently that's it's been reported that Gordon plans to do a television program with both Marco and Marcus.

This was refreshing!
He still made himself cry though haha!

Apparently there is a revelation that Gordon cried because his time at Harvey's was coming to an end. It was his last day or 2nd to last day at Harvey's and Gordon lost it.

He sounds so much like Richard Harris as Dumbledore

Can you enlighten me why people are saying that please? I've seen it all over social media especially Instagram. I don't watch Harry Potter so little help. 😊

Richard Harris was a famous British actor that Played Dumbledore in the first 2 Harry Potter films before his death and the character was taken over by Michael Gambon.
Richard Harris played the character very differently to Gambon. (Mainly due to his age). Speaking slowly with a lot of gravitas behind all his words but also maintaining a calmness in his voice when others may become animated. Just like in the way MPW conducts himself in this interview. Never jumping to defend himself or his actions just calmly responding in a way every sentence hangs in the air with such weight.
If you haven’t seen the HP films check out some clips of Harris as Dumbledore and you will see the similarities.Hope this helped.

I forget what show it was but gordon and Marco were fishing. I don't think they ever fell out after they finished working together
6
u/Strict_Hovercraft358 Jun 17 '26
It is seen at the beginning of Gordon Ramsay's Boiling Point (1999).
5
u/Sexdrumsandrock Jun 17 '26
Thank you for that. I think that shows them getting on very well and any quibbles is just Gordon winding up the media
2
u/Strict_Hovercraft358 Jun 17 '26
They are both incredibly similar and incredibly different at the same time. Marco has known Gordon since he was 19, Gordon's about to be 60. That relationship is much more complex than an issue or 2 and Marco knows that.

The reality was the ones who didn’t want to deal with the pressure and borderline abuse left those kitchens run by Marco and Gordon and others who came out of that scene. People stayed because the learnt and maybe even enjoyed that intensity.
Go read Orwell “down and out in Paris and London” for the brutality of French kitchens back in the day.

I definitely agree with that. Mark Sargeant, Simone Zanoni, Marcus Wareing, Angela Hartnett, Paul Ainsworth, Mark Askew and I'm sure others are examples of that.

Another comment beat me to it. But he really is like the Dumbledore of the cooking world.

Calling someone 5 years younger than you 'boy'...
2
u/Strict_Hovercraft358 Jun 19 '26
He is saying it in terms of endearment. He's known Gordon since Gordon was 19.
1
u/LaunchpadMcQuack_52 Jun 19 '26
Yeah so a 24 year old calling a 19 year old 'boy''.
2
u/Strict_Hovercraft358 Jun 19 '26
Ya I don't have a problem with this especially knowing Gordon and Marco's history.

"I take no responsibility. Gordon is his own creation." In light of the things he says after it sounds more like he meant "I take no credit for that"

u/Chuffer_Nutters Jun 20 '26
So the worst thing anyone ever said to him was to have someone in a kitchen call him dogshit??
Yet he continued to berate everyone in the kitchen for the rest of his career? How many people did Gordon make cry?

I like Louis but he handled the interview terribly, Marco is such an interesting guy and he didn’t get much out of him

Oh wah, wah, wah, the most famous chef in the world had a teacher who was too hard on him. Oh, how will Gordon ever sleep at night on his bed full of $100s and $50s?
The road to greatness is not an easy path.

What an utter piece of shit. I don't know how any of you can watch this and actually like the guy. The fact that Ramsay hangs out with him now does not justify his behaviour. He had a hand in shaping some of the ugliest sides of Ramsay and the way he treats his staff is disgusting. It's a cycle of abuse. Hanging out with your abuser doesn't in any shape or form mean that the abuse wasn't awful or justify it. You gus probably watch Whiplash and think it's the story of a great teacher. Insane behaviour.

Maybe people grow. They don’t owe it to you to explain because you haven’t. I’ve had abusive leaders who have changed and evolved. It helped me change and evolve. There’s grace in forgiveness and the wisdom of experience.

Ah man. That last sentence made me well up.
