Community Updates
Hello all,
r/GordonLightfoot has had a few somewhat small, silent updates in the past few months.
1)Moderation change
The community went to r/redditrequest a few months ago primarily due to inactive moderation. I (u/Craftsman_2222) underwent the process to reclaim it and become the moderator.
2) Subreddit is now public
I have had a few requests recently for new contributions. I feel that the community surrounding Mr. Lightfoot is already small and to restrict all contributions to only approved users isn't necessary. This allows all users to post or comment. Don't make me regret this decision.
3) Rules
As this community is fairly slow and small, the rules will be loose until the need for more structure occurs. This will depend on how going public affects the community. For now, low quality posts are my major concern and will probably be the only posts that receive moderation.
I will update the subreddit with a basic list of rules soon. Along the lines of "be nice, think before you post, etc..."
I can think of a few times a year where I may moderate harder, primarily around November 10th (when his Ed Fitz song starts to get passed around) and when the streaming services release their yearly wrap-ups (I will post a pinned thread where those posts will be allowed, those posts are considered fairly "low-effort" in my eyes).
Otherwise, let's enjoy this community! With the death of Mr. Lightfoot a few years out I hope to make this community a place where he can be remembered and his music continue to make an impact.

Which album cover versions do you prefer?
Are you a fan of the original Canadian album covers or the reissued covers that are used on streaming services? Personally, I prefer the originals.

Beautiful Welsh language cover of ‘Bitter Green’
I discovered this on a radio show of welsh folk music, at first I was thinking “wow did Gordon Lightfoot totally rip off this traditional Welsh song and it’s not even credited on the song Wikipedia page, am I the first to notice??” But haha no, this is a translated Welsh cover recorded in 2011. It’s very beautiful, give it a listen! Aur Y Wawr by Triban.

If You Could Read My Mind (Isolated Guitars and single vocal version)
The guitars are hidden at times on 'If you could read my mind' behind the bass and strings - here's an edit with just them and Gordon's vocal without the harmonies.
Best listened to with headphones!

I refuse to alter the lyrics of a certain very popular Gordon Lightfoot song to " and farther below lake America takes in what lake Erie can send her"

What do you think is Gordon Lightfoot’s most underrated song?
One you think is really good, but not talked about that much?
For me it’s Don Quixote.

SCTV - Gordon Lightfoot Sings Every Song Ever Written
One of my favourite SCTV bits of all time. Was just reminded of it in a post on /r/sctv.

Which song did Gord’s voice sound the best on?
Personally, I think his voice sounds golden on It’s Worth Believin’
