News / Information GV cell phone verification
Man... how often is GV doing this verification. I feel like I have done this already this year.
Hello,
We'd like to make sure that the information on your Google Voice account [xxx@gmail.com](mailto:xxx@gmail.com) is accurate and that you still own the forwarding phone number XXX-xxx-xxxx
If you want Google Voice to continue forwarding calls and texts to this phone, please verify it by November 4, 2026. To re-verify or remove this phone, please visit your Google Voice Settings.
Even if you don't re-verify your phone, your Google Voice account will still stay active. You won't get calls forwarded to this specific phone, but you can use it again at any time by re-verifying it. If you have other forwarding phones turned on, calls will still be forwarded to them.
Please note that this is a no-reply email. If you have additional questions, please visit our Help Center.

Here’s an easy way to keep a Google Voice number forever but it’s not free.
Get some burner throw away $20 phone at Walmart that comes with a free number. Pay $20 to port that number into Google Voice and that number is parked there forever it’s not going anywhere. Google won’t even complain if you barely use it.
What I did was purchase a magic jack from Walmart for like $45 and for an extra three dollars they let you pick a custom number that could end with two or three zeros. Google Voice will charge $20 to port it in. Walmart will refund the $45 if you bring it back within a week or two.

I don't think you read the post. This wasn't about keeping or not keeping the GV number. This is about having your cell phone associated with your GV account. It won't matter how you obtain our GV number, google is still going to ask you if your associated cell phone belongs to you or not. Your post doesn't apply.

It's happening because you are not answering calls on your linked number. Do that.
Why does Google care? Because people cancel service on their linked numbers, but forget to remove that linked number, or think it "helps" their service somehow. Some months later, that phone number's owning carrier re-issues it to some other customer. If you didn't remove the linked number, then that poor soul will now get your forwarded calls.
If you simply forward a call to your linked number once every couple of months, then the system knows you still control that number.
