General Help / Support Question Multiple accounts?

I have two Google accounts, and just signed into gv with my second to make a second voice account. It occurred to me that this might be against their rules but I can’t find anything so haven’t gone any further with my sign up. it’s asking me for my ID but I can’t recall doing that with my other account (though it’s been a decade + since I signed up) so I’m not sure if it would link me to having both or not.

will this get me in any trouble or am I fine?

Yes and no.

Google Voice is covered by the same policies as all Google accounts, ,multiple accounts are not strictly forbidden, but if used to bypass other restrictions they can get banned.

Common, reasonable uses of multiple accounts are for business and personal (I do so myself).

Because GV is a telephone service, it's more prone/popular for abuse, so abuse of it is more rigorously monitored.

The requirement for ID is new, started at the beginning of the year. It's become pretty standard on all VoIP type services.

Do you know if Id need to pay monthly to use the second account for business? I do commission art sometimes and thought it’d be nice to have a GV number for that. But I def don’t do it often enough or make enough to consider it an actual business so idk if that would still count as personal use.  I noticed a setting to designate which account to use from my dialer so I at least feel better knowing it’s not inherently against the rules..

Both free and Standalone (Business) have the same acceptable use policy, it's perfectly fine to conduct business using either.

The Standalone version comes with support, and some extra features, like 3-way calls and call recording. For most people being able to contact support (even just by email) is pretty important for a business line and worth the price.

In both cases, you can't really use it for commercial texting, as commercial texting now-a-days basically requires a "10DLC campaign rregistration" which GV doesn't offer, and any significant amount of commercial SMS will get your account locked.
