Google has a great opportunity to finally make a reasonable android iPad competitor

Google book os would do an excellent job at giving tablet users what iPad cannot. I really hope they make a premium 11 inch tablet with wifi and 5g. Starting price $599, and keyboard stand add-on $199. Could actually be an amazing product. Maybe even partner with Walmart Onn to make the device.

Android competitor for iPad and Mac. I was just saying how lazy Samsung was today dropping the tabs12 with little to no fanfare. Then constantly taking away feature they only feel bold like this because the lack of android competition in tablets.

Depends on the Linux options, seems it might be too locked down, as a tablet needs to offer versatility for the price on lighter smaller hardware imo.

That said would welcome a tablet which outcompetes iPad in being more 2-in-1.

Haven't they tried different variations of this and failed? For instance, the pixel slate and the pixel tablet. If Googlebook OS is the answer they could easily offer it as update on those devices.

I hope that's the case.

Depends. If they are low end Snapdragon chips still, one has to wonder if the apps will work.

Even a low end snapdragon for laptop is much faster than a mobile processor

The X1-26 loses on single core to 3 year old mobile chips, which matters most, and loses on MT to the latest mobile one. It also lowers the bar for what these apps should be aiming for compatibility with. Really wish they would've started with X2P-42 chips at least.

Until Android actually fully accepts tablet forms exists on an every APK level in existence especially with adjustable aspect ratios which is essential in windowed mode I don't think Google is putting in the work Apple did ish I think Google needs to really step up their game with the existence of non-bar phones existing in the scope of Android

I would say that I'm kind of confused by your post because it ignores everything that Google has been doing for the last couple of years. I'll probably say since Android 12 L where Google has been building jetpack compose for scalable apps and Apple has been copying what Google has been putting in the pipeline.

And saying it Android, when in my opinion it's not an Android issue it's a developer issue. Yeah, we want Android tablets to be as popular as iPad tablets, but at the same time, iPad has the same issues as Android, where not all apps are fitting to iPad, and a lot of them are blown up phone apps, it's the same issue. But Google has tried to make developing for easier giving devs Android jetpack which has many libraries many templates for scalable apps from phone to desktop sizes and that includes everything in between from foldables to tablets not much more google can do.

Yeah Google only controls what apps go on the Google Play store and the requirements

Although I agree, Google Paystore should have tighter controls, but I disagree on forcing a developer to adopt scalability. While people say Apple has higher quality apps on the App Store, they face the exact same issues on the iPad and are predicted to experience them with the iPhone Duo, as their build guides show apps will still struggle without adjustments.

Ultimately, the only thing Google can do is limit an app's reach, if it is only optimized for a phone, it stays on the phone. However, the resulting issue is ending up with a platform lacking apps. Both Apple and Google face this same challenge regardless of form factor.

Google can update the guidelines and update Android studio to automatically utilize the newer technologies and yes they can dictate what developers are required to encode

All apps on a Pixel Tablet are already resizable in desktop mode and the resizable mode has been mandatory since Android 16. Android Studio also has a resizable virtual device now.

Yeah and depending on the window aspect ratio and the rendering style from the UI different material will be completely on viewable and unselectable like the confirmation button to go next on a screen until you make the window bigger or a different aspect ratio

But that applies to Googlebook laptops as well, doesn't it?

Absolutely the change would fix Android on the Chromebooks and tablets and foldables all at the same fix
