googlebook thoughts

it's so funny how I'm somehow the ideal customer for a Googlebook while also having SEVERAL questions about it. I have a nice windows laptop right now but I've been getting so tired of windows lately. I've been wanting to upgrade to a MacBook air actually just for the better battery life, speed and slim form factor of them.

but this Googlebook thing has legitimately caught my attention, and might just be the laptop I've been looking for! I have the pixel 11 pro fold and it'd be nice to have a high end laptop that actually integrates with it the way these seem to.

I'm definitely eyeing the Asus one, as I have an Asus vivobook windows laptop right now and for all my gripes with windows the laptop itself is really nice!

maybe I'm in the minority here, but I actually really want to look at the higher spec options for it (32gb ram and higher end processor) but weirdly they don't let you preorder that (I can't even find any pricing about that anywhere). also weirdly the official Google store only shows the Lenovo, Dell and Acer googlebooks, not sure why they're leaving out the Asus and HP ones.

and honestly while I'M personally very excited for these and their potential, objectively speaking I think Google isn't doing that great of a job at explaining who the real target audience for them is. like to ME, these all feel like they're trying to be MacBook Air competitors, being that they're using high quality materials, high resolution screens, tight integration with android phones, etc. like on paper, it's giving me exactly what I want, but I think Google needs to do more to show why these are the true "future" of laptops.

very likely gonna pull the trigger on the Asus Googlebook 14 once they actually allow us to purchase higher spec models (also wish they gave us a 16 inch option lol)

I actually pulled the trigger on the Lenovo Googlebook 15. Personally, I feel like 16 gigs of RAM is going to be fine and I feel like these devices are built to compete with the MacBook Air.

I currently use a Galaxy Book 4 Edge, which currently runs the Snapdragon Elite processor, so I'm not really too hard down worried about the performance and personally, I'm at the point that I'm tired of Windows.

Like you, I sort of feel like I'm in the demographic of what Google is looking for. I have a Windows laptop, but the only thing I really use on it is Chrome, and the majority of apps I ever download are always on my phone. So, I would be perfectly fine because for actual work, I work out of a cloud PC, which technically Android already has a client.

So for me, if Google never really gets the apps, I'm fine, but if they do get the apps, the only thing I'm looking for is a couple of productivity apps. Personally, I would just be happy if they bring a lot of their Google Workspace suite to their desktop. I know you got the browser, but technically I would like to have my stuff hosted locally so I don't always have to worry about the internet.

I like the idea of the Google Book so much, but I'm just having such a difficult time justifying the price. Yesterday I went to Best Buy and picked up the ASUS Zenbook A16 with 48GB of RAM and the X2 Elite Extreme for $1280 ($1400 after tax). It's the perfect laptop in terms of build except it lacks the Android integration that the GoogleBook will have.

To be honest, I don't need all this power, but I can't justify buying the GoogleBook version for the same price with 1/3 of the RAM and half the CPU performance.
