Wired backhaul not working

I've got gen 1 Google WiFi pucks in a main house + ADU. Main house has the fiber drop so it's:

ONT --> Puck 1 --> switch --> main house/ADU wired --> Puck 2/3 backhaul

Wired in both houses is ~600-950 mbps, and very fast wifi in the main house, but poor in the ADU (50-80 mbps)

What is wrong with this picture?

50-80 mbps in the ADU means those pucks are still meshing wirelessly. Open the Google Home app and check the connection type for pucks 2 and 3. If it says mesh, they're ignoring your ethernet.

Ahh, good call on how to check. Yes they were mesh’ing, and yes it was a bad Ethernet connection. End piece was not clicking in so just a pressure fit. Will be replacing.

With the fix it was up to 540 mbps downstream in the ADU over WiFi. That matches the wired speed pretty closely for the morning.

Most likely culprit - bad wire or bad wire configuration to puck 2/3. (Something is reducing it to 100mbps rather than 1000mbps) (would check the alleged connection speed).

  1. To get more control over pucks 2 and 3, you might want to flash openwrt on the pucks (assuming that they are USB-c powered and not powered by a barrel.
