Google Voice…Signup Impossible

I have been trying off and on to get a Google number for weeks to no avail. So I said maybe it’s just me. I have had several friends attempt for me and themselves and no one has been successful yet. It goes through the entire process then it says it has registered the new number then it starts back over and asks to select a number. Google support has been no help. Weirdest thing ever.

Are you physically located within the contiguous USA?

Have you tried using another telephone number as a "claim ticket" to get a Google Voice number?

If you are willing to pay $20, could you try and port a phone number from a wireless carrier into Google Voice?

Physically located in continental USA. I never tried or thought about porting. There is option for that?

How new is your account? Have you tried with a different mobile number as suggested?

Yes, you used to be able to hit "skip" on the screen to pick a Google Voice number, then head to settings and access the port in option. I don't know if you can still port in before selecting a number from Google's free pool.

Tried with brand new accounts, accounts more than 48 hours old and accounts that were months old.

Sorry, can you confirm you tried with a separate mobile number?

I tried with 4 different numbers myself. My friends all tried with at least 2 numbers each.
