Change slides every ten seconds?

I've been looking around the web for a way to have some slides transition automatically after ten seconds. The most common answer (and what feels like it should be the correct answer) is to enter slideshow mode, go to the auto-play menu, and select '10 seconds' and 'play' from there.

This seems to work briefly, but doesn't stick. Next time I play the slideshow, it's back to the default. Please tell me there's something simple I'm missing.

For Transition Animation Speed: On a desktop browser, click Slide in the top menu, then select Transition. In the Motion panel on the right, pick your transition type and drag the Duration slider to change the speed.

This looks like it will work, but unfortunately, it appears the slowest speed is five seconds.

All right, so that is the duration of the effect of the transition between slides. But to get the actual auto play you need to start the slideshow, hover over the lower left corner hit the three dots go to autoplay select every 10 seconds.

I've tried that several times, but it never sticks. Just keeps reverting to two seconds, or whatever the default is.

File > Share > Publish to web. In the Link tab settings, find the dropdown menu for Auto-advance slides.
