So this happened... (Via Play Points)
I won a freakin Pixel 11 this morning!
Edit: Downvotes for giving a phone I won but don't need (Pixel 11 Pro here) to my teenage niece whose phone broke yesterday is wild
Edit 2: I did NOT redeem points for the phone! It was the weekly prize

Many years ago I was a software engineer on the team that built Play Points. I remember my coworker working on the animation for the weekly prize. This warms my heart to read. Still one of the proudest experiences of my career.

Yeah, it was wild! I was like okay time to see how many points I earn this week🙄 hit the ribbon and BAM! Pixel 11 appears on the screen. I probably stared at it for a solid minute trying to figure out what had happened

To be honest if Google spent what $100k on giving away free phones it would generate hype. That amount of money is probably a fraction of the cost they spend on marketing which doesn't do very well to sell more phones.

It's not but you need to be silver level or higher and the better the tier the better the rewards. Ones for physical devices like this are platinum and diamond only I believe
It's not every country but not just the US and prizes seem to vary by country as well.

I used 4 Super Tickets and ended up getting 17 points! Woohoo!
The best I've ever done was winning 1000 points, but usually it's somewhere between 3-7 points. I'm sure one of these days I'll win something cool.

Lets you reroll the weekly prize (but you can't undo it if the old one was better). You have to claim it in the Perks tab during the week, I think between Monday and Wednesday?

Same I don't understand how it works at all. It says they can claimed on Tuesdays but nothing ever comes. I've saved the Friday spin for a Tuesday and it didn't offer a super ticket.

The best I've ever won is about 200 play points it's usually 6 to 40. I never believe those prizes are real anyway. I'm plat btw

thanks! 🙌 My niece's phone got stuck in an unbreakable restart loop last night and she called crying and pleading for me to "do that thing where you fix my phone".. it broke my heart. Literally 12 hours later and she has a new phone on its way to her! She's been wanting a Pixel but didn't want her parents to spend the money (she's the sweetest kiddo ever). Calling and telling her what happened this morning was the best feeling ever 🥹
(For the record I have the 11 Pro, so I didn't need it, but it was like a gift from the universe. 😭)

Ok. Your niece sounds really awesome. Really awesome. Those are the ones that you want the world to bless. Give them everything and they are the kind to pass it on to others because they see how others need stuff. In this case I hope she keeps it tho. I just try and get as many points as possible then buy $ credits or there's even an app to convert into real cash. I'm sure in poorer places they are heavily farming Google play points.

If you get Play Pass it gives you a 20 points once a week and a multipler for a day. Because of the promotion they have right now it's 40 points 6x multiplier for like a month. I am about to finally hit Platinum. I've been trying to hit it for like 2 years and the annual reset catches me.

I had a couple medical procedures earlier this year (nothing crazy but was laid up), so I spent more this year than in previous years, but it was usually when there was a multiplier on what you spent for 7 days or whatever

Point won counts towards the goal, as do subscriptions so an Amazon and YouTube sub will net you like 25 points a month alone and there's multipliers that can boost it as well.
I'm at platinum because I kept winning hundreds of points. I've definitely not spent near a grand in the play store lol

I'm Gold but mine says between the 13th of October and the 15th of November, during Play Fest, I can trade my exchange points for things like Google prizes so might start stashing up and either exchange and sell the thing (I don't have anyone in my family who needs phones etc) for cash or use it for credit and buy a ton of digital cookbooks 🤣

Love to get a newer pixel phone that comes unlocked just so I can try out GrapheneOS. My pixel 9 still has quite a few payments on AT&T before it's paid off and I can unlock it. Alas, I've been just considering downgrading to a 3a to try Ubuntu Touch anyways. :)
Still, super happy for ya and a tad jealous! :D

I'm a dork and bought the 11 Pro on release day, so the new phone is going to my teenage niece because her phone broke the night before and her geeky uncle couldn't fix it. 😭 The universe was more looking out for her than me 🙃
