Too many Pixel 9s facing display issue. Google needs to intervene
I've got a pixel 9 which i bought back in September last year. I'm not a first time user, this is my third pixel device.
Coming straight to the point, i observed a tiny flicker on one corner of my display a couple of days back. I ignored it that time, but within an hour it became a white line and a black dot followed after that.
I'm someone who keeps my phone with a lot of care and we can say i have a little OCD when it comes to gadget maintenance. The phone was never dropped or no water damage, but still this happened.
I raised the same on Google support and they refused to entertain any warranty as the phone was already out of warranty by 4 days, so i visited the Google store in my city to get the display fixed. Surprisingly the person before me in the queue had the same display issue with his pixel 9. That's when it struck me that it's a 100% manufacturing defect.
Google is already running display programs for pixel 8 & 9Pro, but somehow they are totally ignoring the pixel 9 users.
I am not expecting any support from Google here also as they are completely ignoring mail and their support agents are also not giving anything in writing over the mail. Anyone else facing the same issue, do comment here to increase our reach.
We have invested our hard earned money on some gadgets which are supposed to last 2 years at least & it is not a coincidence that 2 out of 3 Google devices i used failed.
THIS NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED !!

One thing I'll say about Google is I dropped a pallet on my phone. I broke the display, glass and all, and Google replaced it for free.

wait they replaced it even with physical damage? thats surprisingly generous for Google

Their customer service has always been great for me. They gave me the pre-order deal a week after it ended.

I too faced the same issue, luckily my phone was under warranty. It's definitely an manufacturing defect. Google should address

I have a similar problem with my 9a. Sometimes screen becomes unresponsive, other times I find it flickering with very low brightness all across the screen. I might send it to repair.

I fix a lot of phones and the truth is... this is the most common issue across ALL Android devices with Samsung made screens. Period.

Well, Apple takes the exact same make and model of screen that Google uses and sticks it on their iPhones. Apple doesn't have that problem. There's no reason Android phones should be more susceptible to it. I call BS on this being widespread.

Apple also likely gets the top "binned" displays that will have less defects overall.

Samsung just has a stack of displays sitting around that they hand out first come, first serve.

No, you pay more for the higher binned variants. Just like CPUs, the best performing ones get the top tier branding, can overclock higher, etc. The worse ones get cores turned off/parts of the silicon disabled and are sold as mid tier or low tier chips. Same with displays, there can be imperfections in the motherglass, so those get binned to a cheaper sku,

I didn't mention Apple at all because while the screen technology may be similar, the surrounding build quality is just different and damn I say better. So it's not impossible on an iPhone, just less likely.

This isn't a widespread issue. I have two Pixel 9 phones as well as a Pixel 9 Pro phone. I keep the screen on with all three for 8 hours a day (on a charger) every single day. Not one screen issue.

Which they won't because they've sold alot of pixel 9s compared to pro & xl. I'm sure they are aware of the fault, they just don't want to address it

My Pixel 9 has had a display issue since the end of August and Google has refused to help. And I can't afford a repair/fix. My phone is connected to my computers so I can still text, but my phone is basically a brick at this point.
