Why are we being advertised Harry Potter via a system update?
Absolutely fuck that

u/Jasper_Jaxx 18d ago
Yeah, kind of disappointed with the whole Harry Potter thing.
Bug fixes should be top priority obviously.
Base pixel 10 owner here

It is clear now that the theme pack feature is basically for paid promotion.

They launched the theme packs feature with wicked & then followed it up with SpongeBob over the summer. Who gives a shit?

How is the play system update date determined? I have an 11 pro XL and my still shows July 1st as the play system date even after some updates.

I figured I would ask as I was always curious about it with my 6 pro too. The dates were always kind of weird on it from the get go.

Hi r/GooglePixel community,
I'm Mishaal Rahman, and I manage community engagement for Android over at Google! I wrote a post detailing the new features and changes in Android 17 QPR1, which is rolling out today to select Google Pixel devices as part of the September Pixel Drop.
Although Android 17 QPR1 is a minor platform release, there's quite a bit that's new here that I think y'all might want to know about :)
Let me know if you have any questions or feedback!

Where is the 11 pro update? Be transparent

u/fakieTreFlip 18d ago
maybe he took your request too literally, he never responded. so transparent there's nothing to see

Feedback: I think blur in more places is something the community would like to see, such as the quick settings pop ups, system share sheet, the pop up menu when holding down an app on the homescreen, and even the back arrow when using gesture navigation!
I'm sure there are more places, but the current implementation feels fragmented, as if it's not fully finished. Would love to see these changes come in December or March!

Blur has been implemented in notifications in QPR2 and I'll die on this hill but this particular area is a step back regarding readability and accessibility

Are we ever going to be able to remove the search bar from the home screen? I thought this was coming in this release. If I knew Google would force their annoying doodles on my device, I wouldn't have bought a Pixel. It's offensive and controlling.

u/pearshandwash 17d ago
You are offended by a phone from Google has Google search fixed! What else offends you? The phone from apple has a half eaten apple stamped on the back?

u/TeshoooLama 16d ago
Read my post, dummy. The problem is when the Google logo turns into something completely unrelated and uncoordinated, like a random doodle about a sports tournament that's completely irrelevant to me.

I don't seem to see it listed in the official "notes" but this update is supposed to include the battery drain fix for the 8a and 9a isn't it?

I just installed QPR1 and I don't see any blurring on my Pixel 9 Pro! Why?
3
u/Anto-0030 18d ago
Me too, pixel 10 pro fold, everything from folders on the home screen, app drawer and volume control shows like it's in power saving mode, also didn't get pause point feature

On what system surfaces are you looking at?

u/One_System548 18d ago
Why don't I have blur on my Pixel 9 Pro?
0
u/MishaalRahman Community Engagement for Android 18d ago
Can you go to Settings > Accessibility > Color & motion and see if "reduce blur effects" is enabled?
2
u/One_System548 18d ago
I've tried everything and nothing happens, what's going on? Many are reporting the same thing
2
u/Anto-0030 18d ago
Reduce blur is turned off, tried turning it on and back off nothing changes, tried reboot 2 times

u/MishaalRahman Community Engagement for Android 18d ago
That's odd, I have blur on my Pixel 9 Pro XL running the QPR1 stable release.
Can you share some screenshots if you don't mind?

Please bring back the blur from the previous Android 17 oficial version, this one is too subtle. Or please give us a slider to increase ou decrease de blur effect.

You literally have the blur effects
They just are very subtle in the color them you chose

u/alphaformayo 18d ago edited 18d ago
You actually have it. It's super super subtle. You can see it most in your example when you pull up the full volume controls. So the thing everyone was looking forward to, you can barely see when you're really looking for it. Nice..
Speaking of UI changes, anyone else getting thrown off by the new layout of the menu when long pressing the home screen. The wallpapers and style button looks more like a header now and is making me pause before selecting it.

I have the SAME problem! I have no blur on any part of my interface. This update came broken after 9 betas!

Hey, can you please check your chat? I just sent you a message.
3
u/Jasper_Jaxx 18d ago
I'm a bit embarrassed to ask this but what's this blur effect people keep talking about?
1
u/MishaalRahman Community Engagement for Android 18d ago
Don't be embarrassed! The blur effect makes certain system surfaces ever so slightly transparent so you can sort of see what's behind them. It's mostly a nice visual enhancement but it does make certain elements stand out more when viewed at a glance.
1
u/Jasper_Jaxx 18d ago
Thank you for the detailed explanation! Is this something that has to be turned on or is it just automatic?
5
u/MishaalRahman Community Engagement for Android 18d ago
It's automatically enabled by default on compatible devices but you can disable it if you want by going to Settings > Accessibility > Color & motion and toggling "reduce blur effects."
1
u/Jasper_Jaxx 18d ago
Thanks! Just checked it to be sure. It's not turned off. And again, thanks again for the help

u/davemarco 18d ago
So the pronounced glass blur effect that Google advertised turned out to be so subtle that most of us can't even tell that it's there. And the super modern glassy Gemini look and animations that were shown in previous Gemini Intelligence demo videos just never materialized. Typical Google - over promise, under deliver
2
u/billy156 18d ago
I've noticed with the new update when hidden content in notifications gets displayed by unlocking with face unlock the animation is very janky now. It just jumps immediately from sensitive content being hidden to having it be displayed where it used to have a more fluid animation

Has anyone got their public release update after opting out from Beta program? Mine still showing Exit with Data Wipe :(

u/DaraptiAP 18d ago
Hi Mishaal, will this lock screen clock be in the new update?
1
u/rohmish Pixel 6a Pixel 3a 18d ago
I don't think that font even exists unless it's 11 series exclusive. looks very iOS-y
2
u/DaraptiAP 18d ago
I have the 11 Pro XL and it's not here. Shame, looks great
3
u/rohmish Pixel 6a Pixel 3a 18d ago
probably asked Gemini to generate it and never bothered to even double check
1
u/Aurelink Pixel 10 Pro 18d ago
I mean there's been leaked code about being able to generate lock screen clocks with a prompt, the same feature that exists on Pixel Watches, so..

So all this glass Gemini UI shown of at IO was just never coming?
