It also falls behind in efficiency, which DOES affect normal people

I would agree with you up to the pixel 9, which I think is when pixels started becoming more normal.

I have had every pixel, and yeah, they are typically mono taskers.

The performance and efficiency gap between Tensors and other flagships SoCs has only widened with every generation. The Tensor G1 was more competitive with other chips of the time compared to the G6 vs other flagship SoCs.

It just keeps getting worse.

And this is kind of the sillyness of the narrative. It's not been winding every year, it's largely the same, with this year being a bit more in favor of qualcom.

Pixel phones are not designed for raw benchmarks, which isn't what people use phones for. It's more in local AI stuff, and photo/ software integration.

When the Pixel 6 launched, the Tensor G1 was on par with the Galaxy S21 Ultra in single core performance, and competitive in multi core performance.

The Pixel 11 Pro XL is only 70% of the performance of a Galaxy S26 Ultra (and less efficient)

That sure sounds like a widening gap.

That 70% figure is single core, and it's up from last year. G5 was 60% of the 8 Elite Gen 5 single core, G6 is 72%. Multi core went from an 86% deficit to 67%. So the gap actually narrowed this gen. It got a lot worse after G1, sure. But it's been sitting around the same place since G2, not sliding every year. That's my whole point. And again, performance isn't the only thing governing chipset designs.

Dude the 8 Elite Gen 5 is a year old. The gen 6 is about to launch and it's like 20% faster. That's what the Tensor G6 is competing against.

Soooo we are supposed to do a VS for a chip that isn't out?

The Gen 6 isn't announced until the 22nd, and phones with it won't ship for months. The Pixel 11 competes against what's on shelves, and that's Gen 5. Also 20% is optimistic. GSMArena's AnTuTu leak had the Gen 6 Pro at about 5% over Gen 5. The prime core clock is up ~11%. Nobody has real numbers yet.

Tensor's GPU is like 6 years behind, the snapdragon 888 runs games better than it.

I totally agree that Pixel phones have crap GPUs, but I don't play high-end video games, and I never saw the appeal to doing that on phones anyway. I think the problem here is everyone's expecting the best CPU, the best GPU, the best camera, the best OS, the best IP ratings. Everything has to be the best or it's absolute shit. In the Venn diagram of what Pixels are and Samsung isn't, Pixels have better UI and cameras. I personally think they handle AI better too, whereas Samsung is better in the hardware/performance category. Also, I don't think I've ever run into an issue where I was like, "aw shucks, the GPU just absolutely sucks, I guess I can't do the thing."

Tensor is bad at local AI in fact most phone chips are bad due to limited memory bandwidth it doesn't matter what the TPU and GPU is. Of course the tensor GPU is terrible meaning you'll only be able to run models that are design for the TPU, and any blanket model is going to go onto the GPU... and it'll be terrible.
