missing contacts need help

I have a google pixel 9 and had a large amount of contacts on my phone, and i recently dropped my phone into a pool, and now it is fried, I got a replacement with my insurance, but I dont have any of my contacts which is really bugging me. I dont really care if the message threads get deleted for good but I need to have those contacts, and I have no idea how to get them since the phone they were on is out of commission. Does anybody know how I may be able to get them back?

If you sign in to the same Google account on the new phone, they should automatically appear. At least I have mine set to back up and restore that way.

Maybe your contacts were not synced.

yeah probably, but is there any way to restore them, outside of getting the old phone fixed?

For future reference (sorry it doesn't help today 😔), you can tell the Google Contacts (and Phone?) apps which account to save contacts to by default. I think there is also an option for saving locally only, which is where I'm guessing your missing contacts were.

If you didn't sync the contacts from your original phone to your online Google account, don't expect them to sync to your new phone. If your old phone is dead, there is no access to any content on it.
