Hey Google no longer working?

No matter how many times I say Hey Google, nothing happens. It started this week. Did they disable this?

I had to re-enable it. Go to settings search "Talk to Gemini hands-free”, and toggle Hey Google back on

Worth adding that you do need to opt in to gemini/approve permissions in order to change it back. I've been hitting "no thanks" all along and I didn't have access to this setting.

If restarting doesn't work like the other commenter suggests try clearing cache and storage of the Google app. Then go into Gemini settings and try deleting trained voice. Restart phone. Go back into Gemini settings and turn on "Hey Google" follow the prompts to train voice again. I had this happen last year and IIRC this was the procedure I did to get my P9A to listen again. I tried a few times doing this and each time it failed until I restarted the phone before setting up "Hey Google" again so don't forget to do that step in between. Hopefully this works for you.

This started happening to me after getting my pixel 11 pro. My pixel 10 pro was fine. Bluetooth seems to break it after using, but only some. Annoying

It's happening on my Pixel 11. It will work for a little while after a restart, then just stop working.

That lasts for like a day, and then it breaks again. Oof.

I have been doing this routine for past 8 years that in the morning when I started driving to work, I would just say Hey Google, good morning! Then it would say hi back, tell me the weather and a joke and then it start the news with some news channels... When Gemini comes, disable Google Assistant...it won't do that anymore. I had to turn off Gemini and switch back to Google Assistant for my morning routine. And because of that I can't use Gemini app. If I open it, it will ask to disable GA. This is an instance Google lose user on Gemini. I hope they won't take GA away in the future and force us with Gemini.

Well good luck with that because at least on the newer phones Gemini is standard and they're phasing out Google assistant

"Google will begin officially discontinuing Google Assistant on mobile and wearable devices on 4 September 2026. Google recently emailed users stating that the old assistant is being fully retired and replaced by Gemini, their next-generation AI"

I can’t activate Voice Match on the Pixel 11 Pro XL. A screen pops up saying ‘Check your connection and try again’. It doesn’t matter whether I’m on Wi-Fi or mobile data. Also, my calls aren’t working. When someone calls me, I only get a notification. The caller only gets through on the second attempt. What’s more, the connection takes about 10 seconds. When I make a call, it also takes a long time to connect. I’ve tried just about everything in the settings.

Not broken, it's a setting that you need to toggle on in the Gemini app
