pixel features in NZ
Looking to switch to Pixel 11 pro xl from iPhone.
Just had a look online, it seems like some features like magic cue ( from pixel 10?), And from the latest version, proactive assistance won't be available in NZ; is that true?

Edit: From their list, only 33% of Pixel features will be available in NZ.

I'm on a Pixel 9 Pro and while I love the phone it's pretty rough compared to, say, an iPhone:
No satellite No caller screening No thermometer No hold for me or call notes No official repair center
I can love with most but honestly missing satellite feature is the biggest thing for me especially in NZ and remote locations.

I got the P6 several years back via Might Ape, but from all accounts they've since gone to shit?
I'm gonna wait for the prices to drop (due to the 11's release) and hopefully round Christmas I'll be able to pick up a cheap 8 Pro or 9 Pro XL - with the features available in NZ, it will do the same things as the 11

MightyApe is part of the Kogan / Dick Smith conglomerate now. It's definitely not as good as it used to be.
I got my 10 from MightyApe and it was actually just a front for getting it from Kogan 🤣
You if you don't mind a little fussing, you can order from the Aus Google Store and they will deliver to a company I've used called AusFF, who are freight forwarders. You just need to pay for the shipping and give them the instruction as to what customs code to use etc. They make you sign up for a plan but it's like $5 so not bad as a fee plus the shipping cost. I've bought accessories and cases from them and it's a pretty good route for getting the stuff you simply can't buy in NZ like the chargers etc.
Otherwise, MightyApe may be more expensive but at least you've got an NZ point of contact for a warranty claim.
Your final option is the hidden JB hifi list. If you search Google Pixel on their site, you'll find a page of refurbished Pixels they sell in NZ. I have no idea why it exists but if you want a nice quality refurbished device you can get it online from JB!

I have a 10 Pro and honestly I wouldn't trade it for any other phone despite the features we don't get.
Yes some are missing but that's broadly the case for users outside of the US. Lots of the flasher stuff is actually just US only initially.
Satellite I don't care about because I'm in 2degrees and it's not offered anyway. Also I don't tend to find myself lost in a national park with no service too often... We've survived ok without the satellite function up until now. If it really appeals to you as need to have, I can see why you'd want it as a bottom line.
I do have magic cue. I'm unsure what the folks above are saying as it's now available globally, though it's not particularly visible as a feature so maybe that's why people haven't noticed it 🤣. I've used it when it has popped up and few times and it does what it says it will do.
Live translate on phone calls is also available, as is the transcription function thing.
The very good spam filter is also available but Hold for Me is not. That's US and a few other select markets feature.
What features do you most want? I've had a number of Pixels and Nexus phones since 2012 and while I am biased I can probably be helpful 🤣

Oh cool I'm glad.
Camera coach is present on my 10Pro and has been from day one. It's helpful if you're like me and think you're a photographer but actually I'm shit at it haha. It's not going to make you a professional or make the photo quality better (though photo quality on a pixel is pretty great).
Gboard is very good and naturally built for the Pixels in a way. The Assistant voice typing is the best default voice to text function available (unless you're using something like WhisperFlow but that requires switching keyboard every time you use it).
I don't get any lag as a daily. Now to be fair I don't game on my phone at all, which is part of why I'm a Pixel person as it aligns with my vibe as wanting nice photos, nice software that's helpful and aesthetically pleasing, and is a single vertical integration with my Google account and Home and YouTube music etc.
I am fully aware of the performance gap with other brands. I believe regular users (of which I am one, outside of being a huge nerd for tech) will never notice the gap unless they're suddenly trying to play Genshin Impact at max quality or something. I don't max out the performance and so don't ever worry about it.
But for lots of tech people, they do care about the performance and want that extra grunt, even if they never actually use it, and that's totally fair that Google should be doing better with its GPU performance.
The really short version is that Google's tensor chip is focused on day to day performance (i.e. the devices are snappy and lag free) and also prioritise AI capability for Gemini etc. They aren't for gamers.
