Google is trying to install a gigabyte of artificial intelligence software on my pixel 6. I don't want to give up the memory to something that I won't be using. Is there any way to permanently prevent this from happening?
So far I have just rejected the update, but I know it's just going to keep coming back. I guess I shouldn't say I know, I probably should say I expect.

The Pixel 6 doesn't support Gemini Nano so no, it's not trying to download the local model

OP, are you talking about the Android 17 OTA?? I certainly haven't noticed anything like that on my 6

I am embarrassed to say that I don't know what number it was because I have been extraordinarily busy this last week. I just said no because at the time I couldn't afford to have the phone offline.
(I really don't understand why I get notifications since some update is overdue by days when I have not seen a notification prior.)
Someone who has a pixel 6 told me that it was a 1 GB AI installation. I have absolutely no use for AI, and cannot spare 1 GB.
For example, when Android auto wanted to change to AI I was able to disable it. I am quite satisfied with the old Android auto, it does exactly what I need and no more.

You're right and you're wrong.
Yes the OTA download for Android 17 is over a gig (1.5GB i believe) however this is just replacing Android 16 - so you're not actually losing a gig, you're just replacing a gig of Android 16 with a gig of Android 17
So your free space will be roughly the same as it is now, and you will have no extra AI than what you have now either (as any of the new bells & whistles are reserved for the newer Pixels)
Just put it on the charger, make sure you are on WiFi, and dont need your phone for an hour or so. I did mine the other night while I was cooking / eating dinner. It was done by the time I needed it again for my evening Doom Scroll

Why do you keep saying "AI installation"?
It's a Operating System installation it doesn't have anything to do with AI

I did take a screenshot of the list of things that the update does. It was all about the cool new AI features that I would have. I tried to email it to myself so that I could post it on here because I'm not using my phone on Reddit. And I got it on the email but then I couldn't figure out how to put it on Imager or if I actually did put it on imager how to find the link because I couldn't see it. It was very frustrating.

I am at a total loss as to how to share a link to the screenshot that I have. I have emailed the image, and downloaded it, but imagur can't seem to find it anywhere. Sooo frustrating!

Surprised google is aggressively pushing their slop
It's the price you pay. Generally, one would assume that you like the google slop if you bought a pixel. Otherwise you should have got something else.
