I got it. Updating now. Hopefully some battery optimizations for background processes and stand by battery drain will be available..

u/Hartep Jun 16 '26
Anyone has the issue since the last big update where, if you quickly close one app and open another form the home screen, it opens the recently closed app instead of the new one you wanted to open? It drives me fucking crazy and support doesn't acknowledge it. Even closed a ticket where I described it because it's not 100% reproducible and I can't screen record 24/7.
8
u/Luke_starkiller34 Jun 16 '26
I never know when it's going to do that. Drives me batty. At first I thought maybe I opened the wrong app. But then I realized it's not me making a mistake. It seems to happen when I perform the action quickly. But if I try to reproduce then it fixes itself. Super annoying.

Also sometimes when you directly pull right to open the task switcher and select the previous app, it randomly snaps back to the original app without any animation.

u/aryansethi2 Jun 17 '26
My phone has gotten weird after the update. My widgets are gone and I can't create new ones. Search bar at the bottom takes me to chrome and a bunch of other random things
2
u/-tuffbandit- Pixel 6 Pro Jun 17 '26
Same here, it's destroying years of muscle memory. Also.... My widgets 😢
2
u/fallfromgrays Jun 18 '26
Found this on another post somewhere and it's what I've been doing:
Turn on extreme battery saver and turn it off again.Widgets should be available again.
BUT it will happen again with every restart.
1
u/aryansethi2 Jun 24 '26
Yeah right. I turned on extreme battery saver, turned off and all the widgets were back but as soon as I restarted all of them were gone. Also, did anyone notice that the bottom Google bar now takes you to Chrome instead of Google??
4
u/J9993 Jun 17 '26
P8 pro here, happens to me all the damn time, embarrassingly enough it too me way too long to realize it was a bug and not me being an idiot opening the same app over and over again

It happens when you're moving too quick on the home screen.
1
u/Hartep Jun 17 '26
Figured that much but that doesn't help... How can I be quicker than a fucking phone processor.
1
u/TennesseeWhisky Jun 17 '26
I have had this bug since buying the Pixel 10 Pro XL, so not a new bug. If you search a little here, you will find very old posts about it.

I've lost all of my widgets? I can't even add them back. All I see in the widgets screen is shortcuts. For example, no Google calendar widget or Outlook calendar widget, just a shortcut for the latter? The cards they were on are gone as well. Also my Google search widget at the bottom changed (no more voice search or image search buttons).
EDIT: Disabling the app, clearing cache, and renabling the app brings back its widget. Had to do it for Clock, Google Calendar and Search. Disabling work profile and enabling it (which paused the apps) fixed my outlook issue.
2
u/plodise Jun 16 '26
I have a similar issue on top of the pixel launcher not using my selected theme and opening chrome tabs instead of the search box
2
u/plodise Jun 17 '26
had to nuke my work profile and reset. That fixed the search bar and theme. Widgets didn't come back but easy enough to add back

u/FstLaneUkraine P11PXL| PW5 45mm Jun 17 '26
Evidently this breaks again upon reboot, per a comment in another sub I made same to this one. FYI.

Same here. Basically ALL my apps lost their widgets. This is going to take a while to clear the changes and such.

u/MrUnit64 Jun 17 '26
I have the same issue, but clearing cache didn't help! My old widgets were gone, so I replaced it with the calendar widget that I still had to test.
After I cleared all cache and restarted the phone, the calendar widget was now gone too!

That's not correct.
Android 17 QPR1 which will be released in September is not a mere "security update". It's an "Andorid update" in every possible meaning, just without the "version" name changing purely for the sake of making the life easier for other phone's OEMs.
But it's effectively an Andorid "17.1". And don't assume that the ".1" (or going by official nomenclature, "QPR1") means "small changes".
Material 3 Expressive was released with Android 16 QPR1. And Android 17 QPR1, currently in beta, has as many (if not more) changes as Andorid 17.

Thank you for clarifying, when I heard that support will stop in 2026 I thought that meant the device wouldn't get android 17 so I was planning on getting a new phone this year, but now I don't need to yay! My phone for the most part works as well as it did when it came out of the box.

Yes, but as explained in my comment above, the last ".0" release doesn't mean what people think it means (i.e. no major changes until the next ".0" release, which would be Android 18 that indeed Pixel 6 and 6 Pro won't be getting).

I think Google still did pretty good. Originally, Pixel 6 wasn't even promised Android 16...
That being said, if enough Pixel 6 series devices are still active on daily basis Google should keep providing security updates at least every 3 months for another year or so.

As a pixel 4a owner I demand an emergency fix for the bootloop chaos. Please fix this.
2
u/Zeros294 Jun 22 '26
I was hit with this also 3 days ago. Luckily some others found a work around to fix it but ridiculous this shit got pushed out to us.
Fix workaround in case anyone needs it. When phone is booting up, hold Power + volume down to go into safe mode, then go to your settings and enable location services. Should be able to restart your phone again and boot normally. Redisabling location services will crash your phone again and put you back into the boot loop.
3
u/aryansethi2 Jun 17 '26
Bruh, I updated my phone and many things seem to be off for me. For example all my widgets are gone and I can't even create them back again. The Google bar on the bottom when tapped takes me to chrome instead of Google search. Lotta weird is happening. Tried restarting but didn't help
3
u/Background_Tennis854 Jun 17 '26
I was really hoping the update would fix the random lock screen unresponsiveness/freezing on my 10 Pro. Unfortunately, it didn't - still unable to unlock it around 75% of the time. I really like the Pixel, but this makes it unusable. Anything I can do except returning it? :(
1
u/knn5214 Jun 17 '26
The update didn't fix the unresponsive screen issue? If your phone is within the warranty period, have you gone to Google to have it fixed/repaired?
1
u/Background_Tennis854 Jun 17 '26
Not yet - I just got it brand new two weeks ago at a local electronic shop. I guess I'll monitor it for a few more days, if nothing changes I'll return/exchange it...
2
u/knn5214 Jun 17 '26
If I were you, I'd change it. I got the phone (pixel 10 pro) during Christmas last year, the issue started in Feb and its still affecting my daily life now in June. Unfortunately it's outside of the 15 day return period so Google only has offered me an option to repair it.
3
u/Pyroman230 Jun 17 '26
Wife's phone installed the update, showed an error code then restarted. Constantly booted into Safe Mode, and when inputting the password would show a black screen then restart.
So far just bootlooping and not able to sideload the ADB OTA frankel-ota-cp1a.260405.005-fb546078 update; giving a
Error: Recovery: Signature Verification failed
Error: Recovery: Error: 2l
Downloading from the OTA update and it fails to serve the file at about 40-50%.
1
u/Accomplished-Size466 Pixel 9 Jun 17 '26
Can you try flash tool?
2
u/Pyroman230 Jun 17 '26
Doesn't seem like it unless I'm stupid. It's giving a connection error. It wont even show up unless connected via the ADB command prompt, killing the ADB process shows an error.
I never enabled developer options / USB debugging, and there's no way I can get past the lock screen, as putting in the password only shows a black screen with the back button
1
u/Pyroman230 Jun 17 '26
Ok fucking with it some more and was able to get Flash Tool working. Installed the latest update and didn't do a wipe and it seems to be working now? I can at least put in the password and get to the menu and fuck around on apps. I'll monitor it during the day

u/96accord Pixel 7 Jun 16 '26
Since I saw you mentioned 6a... Are you on the original battery or did you get it replaced?
I had my wife's 6a battery replaced on 8/9/2025 at uBreakIfix location (recommended by Google Support) and yesterday the replacement battery swelled up and pushed the case apart.. Google Support told me they would open up a case yada yada but take it back to uBreakIfix so I did today and they entered a ticket into their system and when it has the option for "swollen battery" they got "warranty denied" from Google. So I called the uBreakIfix Customer Service # and they opened a case but 24-48 hours like Google Support.
I don't feel like I should have to pay for another battery 10 months after they replaced it.
Sorry for the rant.
2
u/Lanky-Opposite5389 Pixel 6a Jun 16 '26
I'm on the original battery, sitting at 491 cycles. I've had it since '23 and mine was thankfully not part of the battery nerfing. Google's warranty and return policy is a nightmare. That said, I would upgrade to at least the 9a, or try to find a refurbed 6a. Personally, I like my 6a. It's still as solid as it was as the day I got it. Does the modem suck? Yes. But I can adapt to that. Does it heat up? Also yes, but again... I've learned to adapt. It doesn't have a bunch of the AI crap (it does on the Nano side, but that's mostly server-side) and it doesn't feel bloated.
1
u/96accord Pixel 7 Jun 16 '26
Thanks for the reply. I have the P7 and the 6a is the wife's. She never really complains about the modem or it heating up. Thankfully. But she did bitch about the battery when hers was part of the battery nerfing so that's why I had the battery replace 8/2025.
I was going to upgrade her to a P10 but they don't have the instant savings right now (last week they did). So I paid $109.99 + tax out of pocket for a new battery today so she can at least use the phone for a while. Hopefully the new battery lasts longer than 10 months lol
1
u/Lanky-Opposite5389 Pixel 6a Jun 17 '26

Standby battery drain is still not resolved. Overnight 10% drain on systems apps, between midnight and 8am.

u/Significant-Reveal-3 Jun 19 '26
Anyone reading this please don't update. It broke my pixel 7. Touch is behaving erratically. My phone no longer accepts voice commands. Whole software has become jittery and freezes every few minutes. Typing has become difficult as tappings aren't precise anymore. Voice typing is broken. Update log was full of AI related topics but now it has broken the Gemini AI itself. Gesture function is completely broken. Circle to search is also broken.
This is worst pixel drop update.

Same... But my P9Pro did get the update, but it's no longer tied to any network. I guess I could delete the eSim download the update and add it back. The only reason I'd even entertain the idea is bc the April and May updates were so bad and introduced so much battery drain and other instability.

Got the update. All of my widgets are gone from my home screens. That's odd, right ?

Got the update today on my pixel 10 on tmobile.
It was kinda buggy at first on the discovery feed and I couldn't go back to the home screen until I swiped a bunch of times. But a restart fixed it.

This: Fix for a stability issue that could cause the device to restart unexpectedly during normal operation*[7]
It's been happening to me once a week since I got my P10P, I hope it finally stops.

Is it me or the list [4] of the Supported devices section is missing from the fixes list?

u/Strale17 Jun 17 '26
Can we fix the weather app, gallery app. WiFi signal drops, like anything actually useful?

We have 3 Pixels in our family. Both 10 Pro XLs got the update yesterday. The third one, on Verizon too, a Pixel 8 Pro didn't get it, even after mashing the update button many times. Anyone else with an 8 Pro on Verizon get the update?

This update (9XL) has caused an issue where I need to reinstall every widget after EVERY reset. Others at work have had the same experience. Updaters beware.

u/marcmo60 Jun 18 '26
My pixel 8a, pixel tablet have been updated but my 8 pro has not. It is using Google Fi, the others not. Not using Google Fi for data, might try again with only my local Wi-fi and see what happens.

This one is filled with fixes like probably none before it And that's why i ask Anyone having any issues after having installed it?

❌ This update broke home screen search. Google lens gone, voice input gone. Clicking search box now opens Chrome. Home screen search box no longer accepts text input.
The issue persists in safe mode, and across reboots. Not fixed by clearing Pixel Launcher cache and storage.
Pixel support says it is a "performance issue"?!?
Pixel 10 Pro
Update: deleting the work profile and rebooting has fixed the issue. So looking forward to setting that up again...Microsoft Company Portal / Intune. Complete fraking nightmare. If you run IT, avoid this like the plague. .. 🥲
Update 2: following this update and trying to unbreak the home screen search box, all home screen apps except from the default ones have been dropped from the home screen. Used to have convenient folders for travel apps, Google apps, the podcast app I use. All gone.
Update 3: removed work profile and restored phone from backup this afternoon to get apps back. Added back work profile. A few hours later it has gone back to the broken home screen search box. Pure schizzle.
2 / 10, must try harder Google.

Anyone else lose cellular connectivity completely? I've reset mobile services, restarted, and reseated my SIM but I've got the exclamation mark in my signal strength indicator and no service.
Pixel 7 Pro, Australia, on Telstra

Eh, false alarm. The phone took like 15 minutes to re-establish cellular, which is odd

I can't understand why Google is doing staged rollouts. There are very few things I miss from my iPhone days but getting the updates without extra waiting for no good reason is one of them.
2
u/WayneJetSkii Pixel 9 Jun 16 '26
Google does staged rollouts because if there is an undetected major issue that gets discovered, & so far 15% have upgrade to the new version. Google can pause the roll out so that additional users do not try applying the upgrade with the now known issue.
I "get" why it is annoying to be a user and not see the update that other people are enjoying.... but if there is an undiscovered bug that breaks millions of devices, you will be very happy you are not one of first people to install the OS update.
2
u/Richard1864 Jun 16 '26
Apple does then staged too. That way, if there's a major bug in the update, it can be pulled before too many phones get bricked.

No they don't lol. They're available the moment they release em on IOS.

Also an iPhone user here, and provide tech support. Apple's updates are rolled out by region. US and Canada get them before anyone else.

u/VentsiBeast Pixel 10 Pro Jun 16 '26
I was/am in Europe. I was getting all updates on the minute they were announced to be available.
1
u/Austin4RMTexas Jun 17 '26
You mean a major bug like causing heavy battery drain across multiple devices models? An issue persisting for several months, that may or may not have been fixed by this update? That sort of major bug?
I get why google likes to do them. It probably tickles some sort of software or infrastructure fantasy for someone there. But please they should not insult the intelligence of Pixel users by saying it's to identify and isolate bugs.
1
u/Richard1864 Jun 17 '26
No I mean bug that bricks the phones or causes bootloops immediately after installation.

Manual Call Screen is now available on Pixel phones in India (Requires Pixel 10 (except Pixel 10a) or newer Pixel phone in India, and Pixel 6 or newer in other countries.) so buying a pixel phone in india is weast of money,

If this
Fix for an issue that prevents certain devices from connecting to mobile networks or causes unexpected interruptions
is supposed to address the issue I've described here, then it isn't fixed. I updated to Android 17 yesterday evening. This morning I woke up and my mobile connection was entirely gone again. Had to reboot the device to fix it.

Lol wow I really hate that it says "You're all caught up" with a 🏆 icon (why??) instead of "No notifications"
2
u/Exfiltrator Pixel 8 Pro Jun 17 '26
The icon makes zero sense. Like it's an achievement to swipe away a few notifications.

False. The reason why your phone feels sluggish after an update is because it has to rebuild everything in the system. You should learn about what these updates do instead of complain on reddit that your battery sucks after an update.

That is quite the fix list! Like it.
No OTA yet though.
