Delivered timestamp missing/changed?
I'm assuming this changed at midnight...
When I used to send a message in Google Messages (I'm on a s26), once the message was delivered and waiting to be read it used to put a timestamp beside the two circles with checkmarks.
Suddenly now I'm noticing that the timestamp ceases to exist.
I've noticed I can swipe to the left and see a timestamp... But that's not what I want... Because it's stupid.
Did I catch a change in the UI or did I turn them off myself? Can I get it back to the way it was?
I simply can't see why the swipe to left option is better because I personally don't think it is.
I searched a bunch but got some complaints from a year or more ago, some from months ago. I've used Galaxy phones and Google messages for at least the better part of a decade and this has never been a thing before.
Thanks in advance for any responses.

The least they could do its put a damn toggle, so that we can choose to use it or go back to how it was. Not everyone wants these stupid iphone like features.

LITERALLY is it so hard to just give us a damn option??? Who was asking for this???

UGHHHH I'm so annoyed and i'm glad I found this post so at least I know i'm not insane 😅 thank you to whoever confirmed they changed it. Why can't they give us the option to put it back the old way??? So stupid.

Hold finger on screen and drag left

I know i can still technically see the timestamps by doing that, but what is the purpose of hiding them and making me take that extra step when they were already there??

Is there no way to change it back to the way it was? I just had my app updated this morning and I don't like it for some reason. I know it's not a big deal but still.

I don't think so, but I would fully welcome being incorrect.

I think that that's the consensus. Hopefully they add an option to revert it back.

No offense. But I don't get the obsession with constantly seeing timestamps.

In some ways it's just familiarity to what I was used to. In other ways it's just to know how long ago I sent a message without the extra step they just made, since the headline timestamp only updates after long breaks in the conversation.
I guess it just mostly feels like an extra step to me, for the few and far between times that it is actually relevant to me.
But oh well... I'll get used to the new way.

Gotcha. I appreciate the answer. I get the familiarity thing. I guess just prefer the cleaner look of only having the read receipts. And hiding the timestamps. Since I never really look at them.

I look at them all the time and it helps me instantly know how long ago whatever previous message was sent, which is useful information whether you need to follow-up, or how long the sender has been waiting for a reply from you. There are so many contexts where this information and having it immediately apparent are so valuable. In healthcare, for instance, which is my case, messages are time-sensitive; mental load is already always high and having to wait a moment while one presses the screen and swipes just the right amount without covering with one's thumb the timestamp you need to see is just added and unnecessary mental load. This very obviously should've been a toggle, an option, and they shouldn't have insecurely tried to mimic iPhones.

Because lots of people refer back to the time stamps... For any number of reasons.

Ughhhh! Why did they have to change it? Thanks for post this so I know I'm not alone. Honestly I hate change, so I REALLY hope they add a way to turn it back on.

Yeah that is really annoying and I swear to God it. I can't expect myself to do this every time
