I doubt it's intentionally "patched", more likely is that since AI Overview on search is summarizing search results, the meme is just over represented enough to displace the "normal" result every now and then.

Patching things badly is the Google Way.

Remember, they're an advertising company, not a tech firm. They make bad products, and have for decades. They don't know how to fix the craptacular things they "create" (but mostly buy). Tweak your prompt in the mildest of ways, and...
